***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Will be interesting to hear why. Probably just money but still being relatively close to home. He must also be excited with the plan the Cubs have going forward.

There is a part of me that feels for David Ross too. This was the first year he was given a roster that had a chance to compete after years of hot garbage and trade deadline sell offs. Heck even coming into this year no one expected the Cubs to compete for the playoffs so he deserves some credit for coming that close too. Unfortunately he probably needed to get his feet wet as a manager in the minors for a few years before taking a big league job that he essentially had to learn on the job right away in a big market. I think we'll see him get another shot to manage in the majors again some day but he may have to take a bench coach or minor league manager job in the meantime if he still wants to manage. Would love to keep him in the front office in some capacity but I have a feeling that bridge just got burnt.

The Cubs are about the perfect situation to walk into. A top 5 farm system with an apparent desire to spend/make moves to obtain top talent. They have the flexibility to add to their team in a number of ways, adding to an already decent roster.

Unrelated, per USA Today, Padres may wait until the trade deadline to trade Soto and instead look to trade Boegarts and Tatis to start the year.

Feel bad for Ross. Thought he'd be better as a bench coach.

Regardless, the /r/baseball thread on it has been great seeing the meltdowns:

OK, just going to float this out there. If we resign Bellinger, sign Ohtani and trade for Soto. We can live with Madrigal at 3rd allowing us to wait on Shaw.

Look at you giddy fools. Forever fooled by Lucy telling you she won't pull the football away

I'm kidding of course, dream big just don't be too disappointed if reality doesn't match those dreams. The Cubs have never paid a player more than 30 million a year average annual value. Ohtani is going to cost more than 50 million a season. I think it would be a bargain even at that price financially but his contract will likely triple any money the Cubs have ever handed out to a single player.

Dude, if we aren't easily fooled, why are we even Cub fans?
