***Kansas Game Week Thread***

I just don't understand how we are favored/pickem vs KU. They beat a team that beat us by 30 points. I understand we've improved since then, but the line was very surprising to me
Not really how sports work. Also, KU's post game win expectancy was 17%, which means OU outplayed them, but KU made some plays that aren't repeatable or likely to succeed week after week. The pick 6 for example.

We beat Oklahoma State by 7. KU lost to OSU by 7. Did you factor that in?

Yeah I get that doesn't work in sports really. Just a gut feeling really

I’m worried about the goofy motion Kansas uses and how they’ll go after the LBs. That’s the biggest concern for me
Most motion of any team in the nation. I like having our experienced and talented secondary against this. Jon Walters made the point during the game yesterday that the Iowa St secondary rarely has been beat by reverse and counter plays.

LBs will be needed to contain Daniels, and or Bean.

Sagarin has us about 2.5 pt favorites with home field factored in. We got this. Playing really well, with potential to get even better. Looking forward to being in JTS Saturday night!

Someone stated before they stress the LB's. There has been improvement with the young LB's but not enough to be able to mitigate what they like to do. There is concern especially since they were able to do it against OU. Hopefully Heacock has a solution.

The RB’s are a concern, but keeping Bean in the pocket is the key to the game for me. He’s great on the run and improvising, but he is below average sitting back in the pocket. Zach Lovett is going to get a lot of run in his spy role this game.
We’ve seemed better with containing QBs this year. In the past seems like giving up untimely 3 &15 20 yard scampers was our achilles heel.

Don’t recall that being as much of an issue this season.

I think Bean is going to light us up. He likes the middle of the field and that's the soft spot in this year's defense. Also the lack of pressure and ability for any of our Backers to make plays in space makes me feel like he could run for 100 and throw for 250-300. Overall I think KU is going to have 450 plus yards of offense.

With that said I think our offense will have its best game of the year. Assuming weather isn't a factor I think it comes down to TOs and which defense does a better job of making the opposition. kick FGs. It will take more than 30 points to win this game.

We haven't really faced guys that like to get out and run. With Bean and Howard we will see that in abundance. It will be up to the spy to make the difference. I have no confidence in the front 6 of our base defense stopping either guy.

I am excited for this game. About as big a buildup for a game at The Jack in a couple of years. I think it will tell us how far ISU has come since the OU game since this will be the first real challenge since then.

This is the same KU team we should have beat last year. There isnt enough of a glaring difference between last years KU team and this year. they will have to be prepared to score some points

I don't disagree (should have been them last year) but our front 6 is MUCH worse than last year. No McD, no Anderson, and our backers suck. The only reason this hasn't been exploited more is because the QBs we've faced, save for Gabriel either suck or have played terribly (Bowman is probably better than what he showed against us).

I think the only way we avoid it is with deploying a spy on Bean for the entire game. Cincis QB gave us problems on the ground in the first half, only for the spy to shut him down in the 2nd. But I think Bean is both a better QB and more talented runner than that guy.

The secondary is legit but I don't think this year's defense is nearly as good or talented as last year's. The one thing we have (this year) is the ability to create/capitalize on TOs. Our front 6 is not good, we just haven't played enough decent offenses for that weakness to be exposed.

I dont understand how you can say its MUCH worse. Yes, Anderson and Mcdonald are gone, so is orien vance. But the remainder of the front 6 is the same group they had last year, just with another year of experience now

We have had a LB spying the QB on a lot of predictable passing downs this year and it has really helped shut down those back breaking scramble plays.
