F*CK IOWA

Hey now, he needed to keep his balance so he wouldn’t go out of bounds.

Even though he was halfway between the hashes and numbers.

Two points of interest from classic Haydenism:

--the player is such a gifted athlete that he would be a Heisman candidate if a game winning TD vs. a marginal Minnesota team counted.

--he's not coordinated enough to run in a straight line so has to flail his arms to stay up.

I've seen you keep bringing this up. I don't think that is what he did. He leapt through the gap between the two players which is allowed. There are two Minny punt shield protectors trying to block three Iowa players. The guy on the bottom of the screen first swings out wide to get the outside Iowa player and then the inside Iowa player attempted to leap through the gap, but at the last second the Minny player lunged toward the leaping player and got a piece of the side of his body.

I can see why that was a no call.

"However, it is not a foul if the player attempts to leap through or over the gap between players, and it is not a foul if the player tries to block the punt by jumping straight up in the air without attempting to leap over the opponent."

Yep, blew the ISU game. Almost blew the PSU game and won in OT. Beat a decent Purdue team at home on a 4th down TD in the Dallas Clark game. But they rolled the rest of the regular season schedule and then had a 50 day wait before the Orange Bowl.

You forgot to mention....And would have gotten housed by USC regardless because they were on a different level.

Classic Haydenism.

The big 10 has said the leap should had been a penalty. The big 10 also said the “invalid fair catch” was properly called. Iowa has nothing to complain about on this play. If the touchdown stood, Minnesota would have multiple grievances about this play. Minnesota would had been the ones who were “screwed”.

I'm not believing Fleck on that. He leapt through the gap which is allowed. Watch it again. He didn't go over the blocker. He was to the side of the blocker and the blocker caught his leg as the Iowa player was passing through the gap.

I have some acquaintances/friends that were around that 2002 team and I think Banks had some pretty good even-keeled style of leadership qualities that were great assets.

They had a nice season and all but they also needed some late game stuff to pull through.

And they lost at home to a 7-6 ISU team.

So you’re saying the big 10 conference of officials is wrong or Fleck is lying. And you wonder why fans claim Iowa fans are delusional.

Sorry your team lost. I see you’re still not over it, even though the “invalid fair catch” was the correct call.

Why are you still here trying to argue about this play anyway?

I used to tell people even I could have been moderately successful behind that line, with that run game. Didnt like 3 of those OL have long NFL careers? And the RB Betts was a NFL guy for a while.

I always thought Banks was physically great, but lacking mentally- reading defenses, processing, decision making. And in the NFL thats probably what matters most.
Gallery (2), Steinbach (33), and Nelson (50) were all taken in the top-50 of their drafts. Lightfoot and Porter started on the right side and were very good as well. Sobieski was a backup G and he was drafted in the 5th round of his draft. Nelson's NFL career didn't pan out, Steinbach started 124 games over I think 8 seasons, Gallery started 103 games over 8 seasons. Obviously Gallery gets panned as a bust, and he probably was as the #2 overall pick, but he still had a long and solid career, just not a career worthy of the #2 pick.

Fleck is lying. He always lies as a lot of coaches do.

If you watch the play, there is no way he leapt over anyone. He leapt through the gap and the Minny guy caught him on his leg.

RIght.... And what motivation would Fleck have in making such a lie? His team won afterall... And officials have said the "invalid fair catch" was the proper call. So please tell me why PJ Fleck would make such a false claim.

I think he had some chronic injury issues in his legs.

I knew him in high school and it's not surprising with all of that added weight vs. what he looked like in like 1998. He had a frame and was 6-8 but was slim.

It worked well for him to earn that money and have such a great college career but that wasn't natural.

**I hate the term 'bust' when it comes to injuries or just something not working out vs. someone who's just an idiot, doesn't learn the play book, etc.

He also said that once Iowa yelled peter or poison that the play was over. If you watch that play, he never leapt "over" anyone. He leapt through the gap and the Minny player hit him on his side.

Actually the rule is "leaping into the plane directly above the frame of the player" and the Minnesota player had moved into position before the Iowa player leapt. It should have been called.
