Trent Condon

KU: Niang charge/block
Ohio st: Aaron craft charge/block
Texas: two texas fumbles at the goal line at the end where the refs called the play dead by forward progress.
K State: picked up flags and non-call false start.
Was the TX game the same one where they cheap shot/clipped one of our guys just standing in the end zone? The cocked off and Mack Brown didn't care.
Then the B12 midweek later said that's not acceptable?

Mike Davis dove at Deon Broomfield's knees, well away from the play.

There were actually 4 flags picked up in that game, all would have gone against K-State. As someone else mentioned....never seen anything like it before or since, and I watch a ton of football from all levels. Also missed a false start against a K-State receiver on the same play that he caught a TD!

I still think the refs believed Snyder was retiring after that game and they wanted to send him out with a win. No one will change my mind on that. And then he didn't retire, of course.
Yep, my thoughts at the time were that this was a going-away present to Bill Snyder from the B12. No way were they going to let him lose his last game at his own stadium. Then, like you said, he came back and coached another year anyway.

I may be wrong, but I think they called the Jeremiah George one down by contact, not forward progress, which is what made it even worse.

I guess you could maybe argue that Iowa State had stopped the Texas RB's forward progress...MAYBE. Not sure we ever got an explanation on that though.

Ruling on the field was "down by contact." Replay said it stood, didn't have enough to overturn.

Then on 2nd down, the runner fumbled again and was able to take the ball away from two defenders.

Shouldn't have even gotten that far, though -- before the two fumbles, Texas had 3rd-and-8 from the 11, and Richardson got called for a PI (which it was, but didn't have to be) in the end zone that gave UT 1st-and-goal.

There are so many. The picked up flag at kansas st, the non call on the charge vs kansas in Hilton and then they call a foul on niang as the ku guy is rolling on top him.
There is one that really sticks out for me though. I think this is the worst call I've seen in any sport on any level. The game in the phog when one of our players was got fouled and was shooting 2 free throws. I can't remember which player it was but he shot the first free throw and missed. Everyone was standing around because he had another free throw but one kansas player rebounded the ball and went down and hit a 3. Everyone was dumbfounded because we had another free throw. The refs huddle together and say ISU has another free throw but they can't take the KU 3 pointer off the board so they counted it and gave us our 2nd free throw and then gave Ku the ball. I was stunned. If I was coach I would have left in handcuffs.

There was also a foul on Withey towards the end of regulation that would have been his 5th but they gave to a guy 10 ft away from the play. IIRC Withey wrapped a player up to try to foul but they gave it to a guy trailing the play.

I think the free throw shooter was Jared Homan.

Yeah, shouldn’t have been changed. Nothing there was enough to overturn the call on the field.
I know everyone hates Iowa, but there is a reason it has been talked about nationwide as a horrible call.
Nationally, people were over it the next day. It was the last headline in ESPN’s ticker that evening and bumped the next morning.

It’s not really a national story, because Iowa isn’t a serious contender for CFP, B10, or even top 25. Seems only the local guys can’t let it go.

And ironically he lost in a very un-Bill Snyder like way to go out a year later in Ames.

ISU was all but dead until Rose returned a botched ball for a TD.

There was also some precarious non calls...ISU could have been called for PI on one play late.

The 2005 debacle of officiating in Lawrence still haunts me. There was a TD that Iowa State scored that got reviewed and overturned to no TD without conclusive evidence, as well as a 4th down stop for ISU that got reviewed and called a 1st down, where eventually KU scored, all in the 4th quarter I believe. Game goes to OT, where of course we miss a FG and lose by 3.

I realized recently that he’s from Osage, and I’m from a small town very close to Osage. I know Trent’s just a shade older than me. I looked him up on Facebook, and unsurprisingly we have a lot of mutual friends, including some cousins of mine who were classmates of his. He looked super familiar too. Then it hit me.

I was at a party at said cousin’s house in Cedar Falls on Jan/Feb of 2006. We had waxed Iowa in both revenue sports that year, and I happened to have an ISU hoodie on that night.

Some guy in Iowa gear at the keg starts talking CyHawk ****, and of course I take the bait and a heated debate ensues. This guy was just a stereotypical douche bag PurpleHawk with all the usual talking points.

After seeing his picture, I realized that’s where I recognized him from. He was that dbag PurpleHawk. I’m sure he’s grown up since then (so have I), but it was just kinda funny that he was absolutely the typical Purple Hawk.

I generally like him on the radio, but he’s unhinged right now. That **** he’s saying on LockedIn sounds legitimately psychotic and paranoid/delusional. It’s too bad because he’s pretty good when he sets the homerism aside.

Sounds like you owe him a punch to the face

It was talked about nationwide as a horrible call by people who didn’t take the time to understand the rule. You can’t advance a punt after making a motion like that (Peter/Poison). They should’ve whistled it dead as soon as he picked up the ball. Catching it while reviewing something else was well within their authority also. It just made it even more painful for the Hawkeyes.

Aaron Rodgers, Pat McAfee and those guys who spent years in the NFL don't know football rules?

Let's cut the *****, there are only 2 fanbases that think it was a good call. One of the them has the biggest d-bag coach in college football and I wonder who the other is?

I saw even Chris Williams tweeting about.
