F*CK IOWA

He should have known the rules for sure and I don't think he was trying to deceive anyone as it wasn't even close to being a legal fair catch signal. I think he was waving to get the blockers away from the football because a punt landed on a blocker during the PSU game. But again, he should have known the rules. We all know the rules now. Like I said just a very bizarre play.
He should have told his blockers to turn around. What the **** are they doing looking at him when they should be blocking someone?

I think he did wave as I've said many times. Do I think it affected the outcome of the play outside of getting overturned on replay, no I do not.
I can see why every Iowa fan would be upset by this rare call, but it was correct. And if on the field it wasn't seen then why do Iowa's #17 and #42 back away? (I may be wrong on the numbers.) I think that MN players #24, 27, 14, 6, and 43 all let off when it's clear he's swinging his arm and letting it drop. That's when Dejean decides to grab it.

None of this takes away the amazing athlete that Cooper is and what he's done to win so many games for Iowa. This is one game out of so many that Iowa should've lost that Cooper single-handedly captured victory from the jaws of defeat. He was caught making an invalid fair catch symbol that is in place to protect injury of those that don't know whether to stop or to hit.

I think multiple things can be true here - The refs ended up making the right call and Iowa got screwed

I don't neccesarily feel bad for Hawk fans based off of how their season is going and the fact that they still had a chance to win but if this happened to ISU I'd still be upset about it
There's not 1 fan base in country that wouldn't be upset in Iowa's position imo. You have some people in national media saying it was an awful call of course the fans will be upset. It's a good thing iowa has a bye week because if the teams like the fans and still not letting it go then we'd be in trouble Saturday. With that I'll move on

I get why it is hard to come to grips with it as I will die on the hill that what Cooper did gained no competitive advantage whatsoever with this particular play. Minnesota did not let up at all, nor should they have, and I also don't think Fleck saw anything out of sorts either with the way he reacted because he wasn't yelling for a review or anything.

But at the same time, apparently the correct call was made no matter how trivial.

1. You have no idea whatsoever if he did or didn't gain any competitive disadvantage on the play. If even 1 Minny player let up a little bit, that affected the play... and you don't know if that happened.

2. Fleck's immediate reaction to the TD means absolutely nothing. He probably never even saw DeJean waving his arm... might have been watching the ball... who knows? So you might as well drop that stupid excuse too.

3. You think the correct call was 'trivial'? Umm.... no.

*I wonder if Minny received an apology for the missed 15 yd penalty committed by Iowa on the play that wasn't called? They should have gotten one... but since they won anyway... maybe not?

Fleck was running towards Cooper like he was a gunner down the sidelines. As soon as Cooper broke contain, he puts his hands on his face. He was clearly dejected and had zero clue that there were any infractions at all.

How many times do we have to say this... ALL SCORING PLAYS ARE REVIEWED. PJ wasn't yelling about a review because he knew the play would be reviewed

And that matters how exactly? Just because a coach didn't see an infraction doesn't mean the infraction didn't occur. PJ also didn't see the Iowa player leave his feet and leap over a stationary blocker in front of the punter. That is a 15 yard penalty. Thus Cooper's kick return never should had occurred in the first place!

Iowa fans can be sad... but Iowa did NOT get screwed when the correct call was made. C'mon... you should know that. How do you get screwed by the correct call being made? Minny would have been screwed had it not been called is the actual truth.

Especially since they missed the 15 yd penalty Iowa committed on the play.

I would hope a coach would still be yelling about a review and about something to review in that situation. You can't just assume the refs are going to get it right

What does it matter how Fleck reacted. You know for a fact that he saw DeJean waving his left arm? Dumb argument.

He's not a ref though.

Dang, I would think Iowa state fans would at least understand what it is like to have a correct call go against you and still feel like youre getting screwed. EX. Iowa State vs Texas when we stripped them twice on the goal line and the refs called it forward progress in like 2013

DeJean's and Ferentz's explanation that he was just keeping his balance with his left hand, not waiving, is laughable.

It reminds me of their defense's habit of clapping to try to cause an illegal procedure penalty, or their Dlineman trying to slap the ball while the Minnesota center was snapping it at the end of the game. It's cheating and it's bush league.

1 - The rule is absolutely up to the refs and isn't always consistently called, but that is true for most rules in most sports.

2 - You may not like the rule and find it stupid or questionable.

3 - The play in question fits the definition of not being returnable, whether you like that or not.

4 - I ******* love the Hawk misery going on right now.

A coach can request the officials to look at a certain aspect of the play during the review process. But since all scoring plays are reviewed, a coach wouldn’t be yelling to have the play reviewed.

****, I have Parkinson's and use a cane and I don't wave my hands like that for balance. DeJean really shouldn't be playing football if he struggles that much to jog on flat ground.

I don't think Fleck nor the Minnesota team reacted in a way that Cooper got a competitive advantage is what I'm saying. Doesn't matter at the end of the day as the rule was applied correctly, but it does show that the rule is not very well known if at all by most people that play and coach the game let alone the fans.

CMC would be yelling thats for sure. OU Conference Championship type of yelling I hope
