In memoriam of Brian Ferentz as Iowa's OC

Before the Iowa - Wisconsin game yesterday, I read that Iowa punter Tory Taylor averaged 288.2 punting yards per game while Iowa's offense averaged 249.2 yards gained per game. Taylor punted for over 500 yards in the Wisconsin game while the offense went for 237 yards. That is hard to believe! Who knew that punting is winning?
Taylor was amazing last night. Constantly flipped the field and pinned them deep a few times.

I turned on AM post-game with Dolph after the Oregon Washington game and raked some leaves. Taylor is a helluva interview. Seems like a great guy.

And here are some more interesting Iowa football stats (before Saturdays games):
  • Dead last in total offense and first downs (out of 133 teams)
  • 128th in third down conversions
  • Tied with ISU with 21.8 points per game
  • Other B10 teams with fewer than 21.8 points per game:
    • MN 21.7
    • MSU 21.7
    • Indiana 20.8
    • Illinois 19.2
    • Nebraska 19.2
Brian Ferentz could move to those B10 schools and be an improvement. Of course, those schools do not have defenses that will add to the point total.

You left out time of possession, which we rank 121st at 26 mins per game. This for an "unsexy" program that's supposedly built on controlling the clock, controlling the ball, controlling the field position.

Did Wisconsin send anybody at him?
About half the time, the guy was just rocking the kicking game. When they needed him to pin them inside the 10, he would, and when they needed him to hammer it and flip the field he would.

I was really surprised that he came back for another season after the year he had last year, he was born in 1997 so he is already 26 years old. Must love the college life.

I agree but a little easier decision for a 26 year old punter. Could easily still have a 10 year plus NFL career.

And being an Aussie, he can't accept NIL (legally). Unless those cheatin' MFers are feeding him under the table.

Well, it's looking like Ferentz will go out with a gaudy record and get his ass kicked in the final 2 games. With a new AD coming in and a new schedule against teams that have a pulse, I just don't see him returning.

Going to be 11-1 and then get murdered in the conference championship
We're not going to win out prior to the CCG. People need to get that out of their heads. We will absolutely lose at least 1 of the remaining games, I'd predict @Nebby but any of the others are possibilities. Iowa loses a game virtually every season that nobody sees coming. It will happen.

I fully understand your thinking and would normally agree. But man the West is **** this year, especially the offenses. With Iowa's D, I could see them holding every remaining team below 14 pts. Their ST always sets up at least one easy score (that even they couldn't miss) and their defense will create other opportunities.

The West is just that bad this year. And yes, I realize the Big 12 sucks this year too:)

They could lose any of the remaining games because they will all be close games with this offense.

This. The west is so god damn horrible that you can have zero passing game and can still run the table. It’s that awful. Just think about that for second.

They could, but they probably won't. Iowa will be playing a lot of close games and it is hard to win every close game.

Oh we know all too well it's hard to win close games:)

It will be interesting to see if anybody can step up to get them. Unfortunately, even if they do, WI is likely to lose 2 more so Iowa is almost guaranteed to win the West.
