Higgins is a star

Maybe physically, but is he at all the type of blocker those two guys were? They were elite in that department. Maybe Higgins is, but I would guess not considering our run game overall is not as good as it was when we had Lazard and Butler blocking at the 2nd level.

Side note: I am pulling for Daniel Jackson to get more involved again. After his break out game vs Oklahoma State he has been pretty quiet.
Receivers blocking is huge. I think they've improved as the year has gone on but there have been many times where a play was stopped for little to no gain because the receiver didn't hold his block.

Best throw was the back shoulder throw IMO. Higgs got away with a small push off but it was a nice play that seems to show chemistry is getting better with Rocco and the receivers.

I thought the best all around play was that drag but you are right on this throw. Back shoulder requires exquisite timing by both the QB and receiver AND a ton of trust. If the throw is off, if the receiver doesn't maintain position, etc it's an incompletion at best or a pick at worst. Nothing shows being on the same wavelength as that throw. You are 100% right on that.

The drag throw across his body was impressive. No doubt.

Any receiver who doesn't run their route 1 yard short of the marker on 3rd down is a star on this team. Stanley stands out in that regard.

I like that he battles for the 50 50 ball and will win most those battles. I also think i remember him saving an interception in the end zone on a poorly thrown ball.

Such a big part of my like on that was the combination of the coaches calling a good play, Rocco choosing good placement (low but catchable), and Higgins going down/sliding to make that catch. It's one of those plays where everyone did everything right: play call (down and distance), rollout for added time/protection, the throw, and the catch.

There hasn't been a ton of those kinds of plays this year (where everything was so situationally perfect) so it really stuck out to me.

Yeah, that break-up was huge. Higgins was behind the defender but was able to reach around and get a hand in just like a defensive back would. I think that might have been right before the fake field goal and the ensuing touchdown, as well. A bit under the radar, but it was maybe one of the biggest plays of the game.

It's funny that you guys are dunking on the throws short of the sticks when this play was short of the 1st down. We got them to jump on the next play if I remember correctly for the 1st down.

It was a great play that showed a lot of ability on both ends of the throw.

You are right, but how many times are we going to convert a 3rd and 15? You can look at it as in "well he was a few yards short of the sticks" but I thought it was a great call, a realistic play to get us a sizeable chunk of yardage to put us in better FG range. We went from kicking a 48-49 yarder to a 35 yarder, which is a significant improvement (generally) by percentage.

Yes, we don't get the TD if the moron doesn't jump cause...let's be real...Campbell was pulling one of his "Matty Specials" where he wastes a timeout on a 4th down play we were never going to run. Sadly it will justify the next 20 he does where nobody jumps and we waste a timeout. In 1/3 to 1/2 of those instances that timeout could have proven to be useful later (closer game).
