Higgins is a star

I would say that he needs to be more consistent before calling him a star. There have been 3 out of 7 games where he only had 1 catch..... But the flashes of greatness have been seen for sure. When he is having a good day he is hard to stop. I think he is starting to become Rocco's favorite target and expect him to put up solid numbers the rest of the season.

It's great to have another serious threat at WR. Makes defenses decide who they're going to try to take away, either through their setup, or through who they put their top corner on.
Which can only help the running game...likely part of why the running game has improved. Well, that and the improvement in blocking along with the more typical Big 12 defenses.

We weren't taking shots early on. I don't think those lower production games are entirely on him.

They took some shots. They were ill timed or disrupted. One TD against UNI was a long throw.

Higgins dropped a TD vs. Iowa (can't recall if it was a real long pass) and we'd probably remember the Iowa game more fondly without the other 6 or 7 team-wide drops.

If you watch the tape, especially in the TCU and Okie st games, he’s been wide open a lot and Rocco just didn’t find him. He can create space.

I like our receivers - I'll include Bitter because he's reliable and I've always liked Jackson + Noel and Higgins are both good. Stanley has his moments - I wish we had a healthy Milton / Akers type . Noel is good but those guys who are a tad bit shifty - aka JJ Moses - I think would also be great for when we do those quick bubbles out in the flat or short arrow routes.

Ya Noel is more of a glider that you want to hit in stride rather than a scat back who's going to make multiple guys miss in a phone booth.

The more I compare Higgins to other WRs I’ve seen, he has Serious Skills. His route running is excellent and he makes tremendous plays when it counts.
Gonna force defenses to take their focus off Noel. As long as Rocco goes through his progressions the field is really going to open up.

Basically this, but the talent is there. He CAN create space, he can make contested catches, and he can make difficult catches. He also has the size and (some) speed you want at that position.

Probably my favorite play this year (for several reasons), was the throw last week against Cinci where Rocco completed a cross/drag route for a first down. I like the play because it illustrated: A) staff competence (we rolled Rocco out to help give him time), B) Rocco's abilities as a QB (ability to throw on the run as well as ball placement to create a "safe" throw), C) a receiver's ability to run a GREAT route (past the marker), show an understanding of where his QB needed to place the ball, and ability to make a tough catch. It was simply a great play call with great execution that would have worked 90% of the time (with that 10% having the line being blown up from the snap and Rocco hounded with pressure).

On Saturday Higgins did it all and about half of that came with Cinci knowing who the primary threat on the team was. If this sort of production (and by sort I mean 1/2-2/3 of what we saw) can continue with regularity, it gives us a primary receiver AND a threat defenses have to gameplan around, meaning openings for other receivers.

Thus far I'd say the most positive developments of the season are STs, Rocco, Cooper (Mr Int), and Higgins. Hopefully we see more of 1 and 4 next weekend.

I'm talking team-wide in regards to Cyhawk.

A few. Some at crucial times.

It happens to the best of 'em.
I remember the Texas long ball one quite vividly but we don't (and shouldn't) look down at a player that occasionally makes mistakes

He is kind of a poor mans X. Hutchinson at this point. Might be a tick faster, but also a tick worse in the hands department. And X was elite at route running. IMO at least. Will be happy to have him at least one more season to see how much more he can develop.

Which is not what I'm doing.

The statement was made that ISU hadn't gone deep which is not true.

Higgins was targeted in end zone on a deepish throw (from the 20) and didn't catch it.

People talking about X but the better comps are Lazard and Butler.

GREAT size, good speed, seems to be a good route runner and catch radius of about a furlong. He is a baller. I dont think he is as undeniable as X was, but if teams want to focus on him the Noel, TE, run game all open up.

Clowing that guy with the 20 yard slap fight down the sideline was totally Hakeem-esqe.

Maybe physically, but is he at all the type of blocker those two guys were? They were elite in that department. Maybe Higgins is, but I would guess not considering our run game overall is not as good as it was when we had Lazard and Butler blocking at the 2nd level.

Side note: I am pulling for Daniel Jackson to get more involved again. After his break out game vs Oklahoma State he has been pretty quiet.
