*** Official IOWA STATE vs Cincinnati Game(Day) Thread ***

I thought this was a good win for both the team and the fans. Playing in a new venue and facing inclement weather can make for a real challenge, but Campbell and the Clones went into the breach with aplomb, and put forth an excellent effort.

Of course there is a bit of room for improvement on both sides of the ball, but it seems as though they have a solid sense of what is working, and the collective confidence is growing. It is also great to see the special teams making a positive impact.

Overall, an enjoyable entertainment experience. Highly recommended.
Beautifully into the breach with aplomb to bomb the Bearcats. Haha. I couldn't help myself.

I greatly enjoyed this broadcast crew! They were unbiased and knowledgeable about both teams. One of them made a Dwayne Crutchfield reference - a significant percentage of posters on this board never saw Crutchfield play!

I thought I had I mis-heard/imagined the Crutchfield reference when I was watching.
I just looked up Dwayne, and he is from Cincinnati. I think. So good for them.

Kind of a pointless comparison, but I'll make it anyway.

Iowa State scored with 10:00 exactly left in the fourth quarter to go up 30-10 on Cincinnati and feel comfortably in charge of the game.

Boise State scored with 6:12 left in the fourth quarter to go up 30-10 on Colorado State and feel comfortably in charge of the game.

Boise State lost 31-30 on a batted down Hail Mary that went right into a Colorado State receiver's arms on the last play of the game.

So glad not to be on that side of the comparison!

Some were calling for the reserves to go in at about this point or soon after and your 2nd example is why you get it to like 2 minutes with that score.

Cinci was bad on O and ISU was in control but it just takes one or two plays, fumble, whatever to make it weird.

I didn't get a chance to post as it happened during game ... on that fake FG, seeing it live, my immediate thought was either kick was blocked or (more likely in my mind) the snap/hold was bad.

But that's viewing it in real-time and from the end zone, easier to see from different angle on replay (and obviously knowing what occurred, in retrospect).

I need to rwwatch the last 10 minutes. Game sheet shows 4 reserve OLine played. I saw Petersen at center, assuming Remsburg and Muro were OT. Did Simmons play for Hufford, Black or just on a kick? Guess I'm not sure if Muro was actually on offense as well.

Looks like Remsburg at RT for Miller.
Muro LT
Simmons LG
Petersen C

Lot of 2023 left but we only start 5 seniors.
OG Hufford
TE Dean
CB Tampa
LB Vaughn
PK Contreras

Other than Tampa and Contreras it's reasonable that we are plug and play. Should be one of the favorites next year.
Have a feeling since we’re so young some of the big teams are gonna try and buy our guys. Gotta make sure we can keep this core together

If he takes his COVID year, it wouldn’t take much improvement for Darien Porter to count as a “plug and play” for Tampa.

Not sure if Contreraz still has his sixth year available. Looking at his bio, looks like it depends on whether he sat out a year before heading to Iowa Western.

It would be awesome to get Contreraz back for another year. Or I hope we hit the portal hard unless there is a stud in the wings. We cannot afford to take a step back in PK again.

That’s the problem with playing Mac Teams on the road in a Home and Home and a trip to Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Please convince me why we schedule those.
I see people dumbing the post, but not elaborating why a road trip to Jonesboro, Arkansas is better than an extra home game.

For the recruits in NW Arkansas?

Please enlighten me.

No it's to save money. Jamie wouldn't do it just for fun.
Could someone breakdown the money savings of going home and home with a MAC v. Scheduling buy games back to back years. Seems like revenue from 2 home games would outweigh the cost of 2 bye games.

These are made up numbers just to clarify what I'm asking.
Buy game for a WAC, MAC , or AAC
COST 750K X2 =1.5 MIL
Revenue from said games 2 mil x 2 = 4mil
Net 2.5 mil

Revenue of one home game 2mil
Cost of road game 250k
Net 1.75mil

Honestly seems like 5 mil would be a more realistic home game. 50k x $100.

As I recall, it’s because if you don’t accept the home and home with the MAC school, they’re popular enough that they either jack up the price immensely to solely visit, or decline the honor.
