Just saw this pop up that this game was 5 years ago today. Wow. One of my all time favorite games. The game where it felt like ISU football truly arrived under CMC IMO. So much came out of this game. Purdy's first start, first time wearing the black, first Juicy Wiggle. Kicking the crap out of a top 10 team in a prime time spot. So much fun. Crazy to think it was only 5 years ago.

The TCU game this past week had a similar feel to me, of course with much lower stakes and different circumstances than the highly ranked WVU team we beat. Clones came out and played hard, basically steamrolling the other guys in front of a passionate night game crowd. TCU is only 10 months removed from a CFP final. Hoping our guys use this week as a catalyst.

That belongs to TCU '17 in my mind.

And best. Ever. Was there for it and most since and none of them have ever lived up to that one.

It's still fun though.

This game will always be burned in my memory as just a great f*cking day.

It was the middle of harvest, but I was able to get someone to cover so I could be a groomsman in one of my best friends' weddings. I was laying low on the partying side of things throughout the day, assuming I would be harvesting the next day. I had the game playing on my phone, muted, while sitting at the head table and people in the crowd asked me why I was randomly pumping my fist and reacting to things that absolutely nothing to do with the wedding. By the time the speeches were over, it was in the third quarter and every football fan at the reception was following along and getting into it (even some of the Hawkeye fans).

Then it started raining, so I knew we'd have the next day off, and the party took off from there. The night ended about 3AM with the whole wedding party partying at a buddy's house down the street from the reception venue.

Kind of. Just didn't have the same feel of absolute domination that this game did. I remember being pretty nervous through most of the TCU game. Basically the whole 2nd half of this game was a party and a celebration. It was obvious they couldn't do anything against our D. I walked out feeling something really special was happening that I didn't quite feel from that TCU game, but everyone is going to have their own feelings about it.

That makes sense.

I remember thinking that the 2018 WVU was a little bit of a paper tiger, but that the 2017 TCU team was really good, so I felt like beating them after the OU game that year showed this program was putting something together.

went back to Ames for this game, perfect crisp October day, got a round of disc in at Carroll Marty, long day at the tailgate lots, then posted up for the game at WAS. Awesome day.

Was that the game we got in trouble for rushing the field and the result was a move of the students?

OU win was a spark. TCU game backed up that things were changing a great way
I was at the the TTU game in 2002, OSU game in 2011, TCU in 17, and this WVU game in 2018. The WVU game might be the loudest I have ever heard JTS get. After the safety the place went ballistic and stayed ballistic. Had family at home watching, said they couldnt hear the commentators. I dont think anyone left the tailgate lots till noon the next day, just a massive party

I got chills watching this video. Thanks for sharing. For whatever reason I didn't get as excited about this game as I probably should've at the time. It reminded me when we beat Nebraska at home 20ish years ago where the announcer said something along the lines of, "there's a new big red". I kind of expected to beat both teams going in, so I guess that's why I didn't get as excited. I hate to beat the drum, but I haven't missed a game in the Jack since 1997, (except for the 2 games we weren't invited in 2020), and I should be overjoyed with every single victory and not take any for granted. :)

That sounds amazing. I haven't played disc golf in probably 15 years, but man, we burned a lot of time out at Carrol Marty back in the day.

Man, sometimes we forget how god damn great Deshaunte Jones was.

Is he a Top 5 guy in school history? I think Lazard, Butler, Hutchinson, and Blythe are inarguably in that club, but that 5th spot is trickier.

Tracy Henderson would be right up there. Think he had like 16 in one game, IIRC.

This game was the first time I'd noticed a Heacock defense just demoralizing an offense. That, combined with the crowd, made it look like WVU's offense did not want to be on that field
