Go ahead and tell us where you work, and the job titles of the union and non-union employees so we know you aren't just blowing smoke.
I work at a privately owned company. We have office staff (non-union) and repair technicians (union). Pretty standard stuff....
 
Not on the same topic as WFH, but I personally would not like being in a union. Union workers tend to be less motivated to go 'above and beyond'. They know they will not be rewarded financially for performing the task far better than other employees. Those employees who do work harder get frustrated that they aren't rewarded and get paid the same as the employee who scratches their a** all day.

So unions are great for workers who like to scratch their a**; not very good for hard working employees

This post is stupid. There are crappy workers on both sides. I can tell you from personal experience of working for both union and non-union companies, the benefits for working union far exceed non-union in my field.

It's not "stupid", Tell me why a union employee would have incentive to perform their tasks better compared to their peers? Why would a union employee even care to perform their jobs at a high level?

You do realize that Union workers can get laid off, right? The ones that do their job well are the ones that don’t have to worry about layoffs when things get slow.

Sure, they can get fired as well. But it’s more difficult for a company to lay off/fire a union worker vs a non union worker.

If you are a union worker, may as well just do an average job. Don’t work hard, just be adequate.

Yes… just be adequate. If the job is supposed to take 6 hours, but you know it can be done in 5 hours, why put forth the extra effort? Just get it done in 6 hours.
 
You are so close to getting the concept.
I got the concept. A person who gets the job done in an average of 6.25 hours will be paid the same per hour as the person who averages to complete the same job in 5.75 hours. What’s funny is nobody has shown how that is incorrect

If I get it done in 5 and the job was bid for 6 do I get paid for 6 or does the company pocket that money? If your answer is the company gets it, you just don’t get it. If you let me keep the money and go home early, I’ll finish it in 4.

Thanks for proving my point. Unions give incentives for people to be lazy in their work and will be paid the same per hour and other union workers who decide to work hard

Not necessarily. When the wife’s school had layoffs about 10 years ago or so. It was last hired first fired. A couple good teachers were axed and a couple who were mailing it in were safe.

I’ll add that if you have a unionized plumber come to your house, I’m sure you wouldn’t mind them taking their time and working lazily, right? After all, the only thing that matters is the plumbers total pay. Surely the consumer doesn’t mind paying the extra time.

Your need for external reward to motivate you is no reason to project your trashy woek ethic on the rest of us.

I’ve been around long enough to see lazy people on both sides, union and non-union. The lazy non-union workers, in my experience, are the guys that will have no problem throwing someone under the bus to keep the heat off of them. I’d rather work with someone who is lazy and owns it than someone who is lazy and will toss you under the bus in a second.

I should have prefaced, I’m referring specifically to construction trades.

You pay him for a job, he does the job he was paid for. That's how a business arrangement works.

None of these examples have made a lot of sense. No offense but you come off like a 24 year old who works for his dad.
