49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

Parsons is coming for him. If he continues his streak of playing like he has thus far, they're gonna be hard to stop.
He's faced Watt and handled it ok. I don't want to get into a "who's better" argument, because they're both elite pass rushers.

Losing Diggs hurts a lot. I get that they beat up the Patriots, but this is the worst version of the Patriots in 20 years and their offense is terrible. It will be interesting to see how the Cowboys defense holds up for its first real test since losing Diggs.

McCaffrey is unreal. This run where he hurdled a tackle and barely broke stride is incredible. Admittedly it was a pathetic tackle attempt, but still an incredible play.

He has GREAT vision and instinct with his blockers, is very quick, strong, and elusive, and has just enough speed to be great. And he is great. You've got to wrap him up or he'll run by or thru you.
I ran across this..

Different era, and players have changed so much, but I wonder how good Paul Hornung really was? Lombardi said he was the best player he ever coached. That says a lot!

How would Hornung compare to McCaffrey, I wonder? How fast was Hornung? All rhetorical because we probably don't know.
"At the 1957 College All Star game in August in Chicago, Hornung had a famous match race with Abe Woodson. Woodson said, "We had Jim Brown, Jim Parker, John Brodie, Jon Arnett, Len Dawson, Paul Hornung, and Tommy McDonald, with Curly Lambeau and Otto Graham as our coaches, and we still lost 22–7 to the New York Giants. Oh, well." Just for fun, Woodson, one of the fastest players ever to put on pads, and Hornung agreed to a 100-yard (91 m) match race. Hornung won by five yards."

Dak is a good person. He's a great athlete and decent leader. With our defense we are legit contenders if we can stay healthy. This is the first time in 20+ years I've felt like they could bring it home. They just handed Belichick his worst loss in his career. They drafted CD Lamb which is who I wanted and they never seem the do the right thing until now. Parsons might be the best player in the league too.
The patriots are barely a shell of what they once were.

They're inconsistent. Deny it all you want but Dallas is good.
I’m not saying they aren’t decent. But they have been finding creative ways to crap in their bed for years.

Even if they don’t, the niners are a well oiled machine and you should know more than anyone that you don’t f*ck with Brock in October.

Too bad Hornung and McCaffrey didn't have a footrace before Hornung died in 2020. Then we would have known for sure who was faster.

It is an interesting question, IMO. How good was Paul Hornung?

I thought I was doing pretty good just spelling his name right. :)

With 81 home games MLB has an attendance problem so they have to penalize fans with the TV blackouts. I’m sure they’ve analyzed it and the numbers support their strategy but long-term you wonder if it hurts the sport. Probably already has.
Their blackout bubbles are just way too large. I'm six hours from Chicago. I'm not gonna back up and make the drive because I'm blacked out from watching the Cubs. I'm just gonna watch less baseball. The blackouts should really be limited to a smaller market directly around the stadiums.

It's 2023. There shouldn't be any blackout bubbles. Follow the model of other sports and shrink stadium capacities, but offer a unique experience to differentiate itself from watching on a big screen at home.

Target Field has done, IMO, a great job of this by offering a huge variety of watering holes and making the stadium super walkable. My favorite way to watch a Twins game in person is by never visiting my seat, but bar hopping my way around the ballpark. It's a wonderfully entertaining way to watch the game.

"What's more, a whopping 48.2% of Purdy's pass attempts have gained a first down or touchdown, the highest percentage in the league. Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is second at 47.8%, but every other quarterback is at 38.5% or below."

Can't hurt to have CMC hurdling people for 20 yd TDs.
