ISU Gambling Megathread

This was so important that they had to investigate but also so unimportant they couldn't be bothered to indict on time.

I get NCAA rules != law, and the players very clearly broke NCAA rules and should be punished for that, but at this point it feels like the DCI just did a glorified NCAA investigation on one specific state.

Also I'm glad these players won't have frivolous legal charges hanging over their heads for stuff their peers are all doing.

Is there anything that hanika and the other athletes can do, like sue the state for lost wages (nil) or loss of year of their athletic career lol?
I know you his happens all the time when prosecutors drop charges but pretty lame.

Well, sometimes as high profile as this is, you would think they would be absolutely sure, before they file charges. Because in the era of instant news and social media etc. People are instantly believed guilty as soon as charges are filed. Which destroys those peoples lives, credibility, and reputation. And in situations like this, can ruin their career and earning potential.

That is why I try to give people at least some benefit of the doubt when charges are filed, because we are supposed to presume everyone innocent until proven guilty. But as we all know it is just not that way anymore.

That is absolutely what Enyi’s attorneys are trying to set up.

And how do you think they will go about that? This isn't a situation where they didn't do what they were accused of, nobody is disputing they bet on their own teams. Enyi in particular seems to have a real problem with this considering he was already suspended from the NFL in a separate gambling suspension.

Are we certain it is a separate gambling investigation? It seems like this is why he was caught?

That said, the NFL has really strict gambling rules and they make sure the players are aware of the seriousness. He knowingly broke rules, regardless of the nature of the league finding out about it.

The article earlier seems like they’ll go after the state for violation of civil rights. It’ll be about unlawful searches that would violate a right to privacy. The charges aren’t really as important as how the investigation was performed.

They didn't bother to indict because they didn't have a case. All it took was 1 halfway competent Attorney to defend them.
