Campbell vs Prime

Deion's health will be the only thing preventing him from building a powerhouse program. In the transfer portal era he has the "it" factor with recruits and transfers.

Unfortunately his health issues limit his ability to coach practice the way he would like to.

I’m going to put my prediction here for all the world to see. Lol. Colorado will start 3-0. That means beating TCU and Nebraska. The media will all be abuzz about them. They will be ranked. Then the floor will fall out. They will lose all games left except the Stanford game and finish 4-8.
I’m going to bump this until I’m proven wrong

Come back in 2 months and see how bad you look then. You really went out on a limb predicting they would run into some trouble against 2 playoff caliber teams and losing their All-American 2 way player.

We'll see how it plays out.
CU blew up their roster and brought a ridiculous number of new players in.

They just went toe to toe with a stacked, top 10 team.

But ISU is young they say..........

I hate to break this to you, but we aren't going to compete with Colorado and their NIL machine. Their coach could probably just write a check to players himself.

Like it or not, Campbell is going to have to develop players. I'm skeptical that approach will ever work again in the NIL age but we don't have the money to compete in the new era.

That's why I roll my eyes when people talk about donating money. Look at all the Iowa fans who were grifted, they still have the worst offense in college football.

What Sanders did isn't sustainable long term. 40% of players who entered the portal ended up without a scholarship. Future recruits will balk at transferring or signing with Colorado if that continues. At some point in order to sustain success Sanders will have to recruit high school players and have the patience to develop them into power 5 level players.

After the spring game Sanders ran off some of the players he brought in. He treated it like an NFL team making roster cuts. Not sustainable.

All he has to do is basically be the face of the program and hire good people. I don't see how his health get's in the way of that.

He's not going to do that every year. I don't think getting talent is going to be a problem for him.

I'm curious to see if he leaves when his kids leave and goes the Lavar ball type route. Being a professional sports dad.

There are still only so many minutes of playing time available to athletes.

While NIL is nice, many players believe they are NFL bound.

They won't get there riding pine.

I can't see him being at CU long term. I think a lousy NFL franchise will offer him a job. No disrespect to him but a top-tier NFL franchise isn't giving a guy with as little of coaching experience as him a HC job. The things that make him successful in college aren't the same thing that could make him successful in the NFL. He can't really be the face of an NFL: franchise the same way he is at CU. I also think he wants to be an NFL coach. He's doing it the Fred Hoiberg way. No joke.

I think his goal was to jumpstart the program and bring some fan support back. He's done a fine job of that imo. I'm sure he'll worry about sustainability later.

We still need a NIL fund to give a guy like Tampa some money so he can have a comfortable year at school before turning pro. But I don’t see Iowa or Iowa St ever being schools that use NIL to acquire many players for the reason you stated. I’m guessing Iowa blew a big chunk of their NIL wad ($650K I read) to get a QB and he played poorly then got hurt. I think there are about 10 programs that can burn NIL money every year without thinking about it. And some of them are seeing more disfunction than wins — see Texas A&M and Miami.

Regarding Prime and CU, I think we’re finding out that TCU isn’t very good, Nebraska is terrible and CSU is G5. The PAC 12 is really good this year and the Buffs will do well to finish 6-6 after that 3-0 start. Still a good year considering what Deion inherited.

More than NIL, my bigger concern is the B1G and SEC eventually using the massive advantage in TV money to pay players. Then it’s over for sure. ISU will be unable to keep up with the Minnesotas, Purdues, Indianas, Missouris, etc.

It's now the NFL without a pay roll cap. Gonna get worse if the universities can pay the players with TV money being so much larger in the B1G and SEC.

Not sure why people say that it’s not sustainable. It’s the exact same thing we have done in basketball the last ten years. Prime got rid of kids that were not high enough level of players. Brought in new transfer players and is getting good recruits now. He did what he had to do to get the team going and bring a winning attitude. They will go bowling in his first year after being dreadful last season. He basically did the football version of what TJ did in basketball for Iowa State

He's a millionaire that knows how to self market and uses it for NIL.

That stacked Top Ten team struggled with ASU last week.

Oregon would be a better barometer for how good CU really is.

The two situations aren't comparable.

Yeah the 'he kicked everyone out' thing is overplayed. He's not the first coach to do it.

Also, in an interview he had a point: if those older players left because of him letting them know he's bringing in guys, and they left instead of stepping up to prove him wrong, they won't work out anyway.

He can't take their schollies away so they could have stayed.

Wonder how much those Caleb Williams Wendy's commercials are paying.

Matt Campbell isn't getting paid $15 an hour. He could write a check as well.

Exactly. TJ did it with our basketball team his first year. Basically told everyone they should leave and find another school. Every coach is doing it now and the players are bolting for NIL.
