***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Not sure why PCA is exempt from this blame fest. He's been caught off 3rd twice including last night. Let a routine ball fall in center. Been picked off first (though he beat it out to 2nd) and been caught steeling twice on questionable goes. Kid isn't ready.
PCA has made a lot of mistakes. Most of them trying to be aggressive, but the outs on the bases can't happen ever, let alone a WC race.

One of my biggest gripes last night was when they brought him in. If you can't let him bat in a big spot then you don't bring him in until the 7th or 8th inning. The fact that he played last night and wasn't in there for that drop is egregious.

Don't disagree that he's not ready, but was surely an odd time to take him out of the game on nowing his strength.

I thought they should of brought him in the 8th for Gomes, led off the inning with a single. After Tauchman bats in the inning you could bring Amaya for either one of them. Straight steal then you have Masterbouni (who's 3/3) and the top of the order.

Yeah, you don't do a defensive substitution, while also playing for a single run (part of the reason you even bring in a pinch runner) while you're up 5 or 6 to nothing, in the 3rd ******* inning. Such a weird, dumb decision.

The most generous interpretation of that decision is that it shouldn't have mattered. But in that case, why the hell are you doing it?? The only other acceptable reason is if Tauchman was hurt. That's it. Or I suppose if the Cubs had already clinched a playoff berth and you're trying to develop a rookie.

Regarding the conversation on Belli/Ohtani, I think Belli is a can't miss in FA. It's not just his bat that we need (and I think he's perfect as a 1/2/3 hitter) but he also covers 1B/CF holes.

I get he's not the hitter Ohtani is, but while Ohtani covers 2 spots at an elite level, I'd argue Bellinger does the same (1B/OF) and will be half the price, if not less.

And now in a genuine must-win ballgame, we get the crapshoot that is Taillon this year. Lulz. Somehow I get the feeling it just isn't in the cards this year, ya know?
It's been a bad year but he's had a hell of a second half that gets too largely ignored.

He's given up 3 ER or less in 11 of his last 14 starts. One of those three "bad" games he had a no-hitter going into the 5th before an implosion. 5 of those games he gave up 1 ER or less.

In other words, his terrible first impression has made him look ****** all year when in reality he's been pretty damn good for awhile.

That being said, I am preparing my anus for a tough night as he does love to give up the long ball.

Yes, I feel better paying Bellinger and a starter 30 mill each then Ohtani 60.

Hell of an outing so far from Taillon. Regardless of pitch count, I'm not sure I love him going 7 solely because he's only made it past the 6th twice this year. Unfortunately, when your bullpen is as depleted as ours, we don't have much of a choice.

Shut it down, Taillon.

We're fine and we can get out of this mess.

But when the identity of your team is elite defense and your defense has been atrocious during this cold stretch, it's just backbreaking.

Gonna sound sexiest but they shouldn't allow women to sit in view of the CF camera. Last two nights I'm distracted by women in high dollar seats with absolutely no interest in the game. Of course I'm kidding...or am I?
