In the article, during his post game press conference he admitted he wasn't coaching to win the game. He was coaching to not screw the game up.
During the press conference, He also admitted that he never has the team ready when the season starts. Claiming something about historically we've always been a slow developing team every year. It takes him the first part of the season to figure out what he has for a team.
For someone that preaches we only have 12 opportunities every year to play a game, it's infuriating to me that he thinks it's a reasonable explanation to say he always burns the first third of the season trying to figure out what he has for a team.
That's a coaching problem.
Campbell doesn't get it.

CF writers may be one of the best sources to convey the mood of CF, in general, or specifically. I'm sure they sense the mood, but do not read CF.
I am pleased with the improvement vs. OSU and the opening up of the playbook. From here on, we will have to play around the OLine. We cannot revert back to a failed run game, not with this Line. Continue to play creatively and realize that we will not have the support of a run game. Do this and we will have more chances at success this year.
CF will will feel better after a win, and even better if CMC works on improving some of his coaching weaknesses. We wish him and our players the best. Personally, I feel some of his statements in this article, admitting where he was wrong, is a start.
The play calling, the win yesterday, and allowing Rocco to ball, helped as well. Keep it up Coach.

That's a fair statement. Yes.
I think we as fans want MC to admit some of his coaching failures, and work to improve them. We want to see positive changes. Conner probably felt the same way, but in doing so, did twist the words some.
It's about as close as MC can come (at this point in his career) to admitting his faults. It's an OK first step, IMO. One cannot change until one sees the need to do so.

I feel a bit vindicated by Campbell's quote. I was saying they play scared cause they're coached scared for a while.
Campbell has never, ever been proactive. When you have a contract, why risk change. Muddle along.
Which is about the team's approach and nothing in there with him saying what his direct approach was.
You can interpret it that way but it's not a direct quote.
I'm not playing the CMC apologist role here either; I've asked for years what happens in August camp for the team to have such a slow, unorganized looking start and even having a slow start in most games; when was the last time they really jumped on someone that didn't have Covid issues?
To be fair, early Campbell at ISU was. With the QB substitutions, and almost complete defensive scheme and system overhaul within a season.
Notre Dame bowl game was when he seemed to go scared though.
Making changes does not equal panicking.
The sooner all of you realize that almost everything Campbell says is for the benefit of his players, the better. It’s coach-speak sure. And some of it is being stubborn—-like 98.9% of coaches (I.e. they do the exact same thing). But the main reason he does it is because he wants to protect the players.
CMC didn't say that. He said we are a team that grows as the season grows and part of that is understanding who your team is and what that particular team's identity is especially with a young team like this year. It seems like growth during the season is what you want and it is reasonable to learn a lot about your team when you start playing games vs camp.
I'm sure the fanbase just LOVES to hear that ISU doesn't take the Iowa game seriously and enters that contest unprepared.
Notre Dame bowl game was the only ISU bowl game I ever went to. Horrible traffic, Dumpy part of town, rain, and then the game.
