What brand of gear?

Just generic rain pants from REI and hiking shoes from Merrill. To be fair I wore wool socks with the shoes so maybe not as waterproof with cotton socks.

It's a fairly new deal that I elected to try instead of a fusion.

They replace the tibia head and the talus (sp?) with titanium and put a plastic joint in between them. Unlike a fusion, you retain movement and flexibility in the joint instead of losing all that in fusion so that uneven surfaces are more manageable. I've got substantial nerve damage in that leg and had to do something to not shred my knee because the ankle couldn't support it any longer. If it's not successful (80ish% success rate) they can go back and fuse it. I want to put off the coming knee replacement as long as I can because I'm early 40s.

Hurts like a son of a ***** at this point but I'm already weight bearing and feel more stable than I did before surgery. Hopefully, 8 weeks from now I'll have a bunch of the mobility and balance I lost back.

I'd be interested in knowing the name of this new ankle replacement procedure. I gave up following advancements in total ankle replacement some 10-15 years ago so I'm not up to speed on the latest.

My doc (UIHC) and all the literature refers to it as Total Ankle Replacement. Not sure if the technique has changed or anything from before.

If there is only one tornado in a storm system, I would say that might be considered isolated? Versus a bunch of them.

So wouldn’t you just say “ a tornado is possible ”? Instead of a redundant statement like “an isolated tornado is possible”?

Not all surgeons are trained in it...it's a fairly new procedure. Dr David Cain at mcfarland in Ames did mine in Dec 2021. Agree there's pain involved and some downtime, but for me, two years out...it was absolutely worth it. Like I said...I'm hiking hills in Greece without ankle pain.
