Y’all should have been there, or Grand Portage, on Monday night. It was the bomb!
Montreal is fantastic and Quebec City is another great option. QC is the closest you'll get to feeling like your in Europe while in North America, even more than Montreal IMO.
Asheville, NC area - Biltmore is actually really amazing to tour.
Lake Lure (Dirty Dancing) is about 45 minutes SE
Pisgah National Forest and a few waterfalls are about 45 min SW
Brevard is actually a neat small town

I tend to agree. Here are Gooseberry Falls and Grand Portage on the North Shore from early this week.
If you liking bicycling I really like the Root River trail in SE Minnesota. Lanesboro is the main town on the trail with lot's of B&B's and some nice restaurants. I would add though that this time of year some of the restaurants tend to only be open the last half of the week.
Galena, IL can keep you entertained for 3 days. Plenty of dining, shopping, historical attractions etc. Should be plenty scenic by then. Plenty of Bed an d Breakfasts to pick from. Even if you don't stay at the Hotel DeSoto I'd recommend dining there once.
Yep: by experience. Go to and buy directly from the Wharf. It eliminates all the middle men, you'll save LOTS of money and the lobster is as fresh as you'll ever get. It's a joke in my house when we have lobster that it is cheaper to fly to Maine and buy from the wharf than the midwest grocery store.
With three days as an option it is pretty hard to not do Duluth Minnesota and take advantage of the North Shore, Split Rock, and Goosebury Falls. I'm mean let's face it the North Shore is paradise for 2 months a year and you've got your window right now.
Or if you want to get out of the midwest I would pack up immediately and get to the Outer Banks North Carolina in a heartbeat if my wife said "lets go."

Council Bluffs is nice this time of year. If that's not your speed, maybe Paris France?
There’s always Paris, Iowa or even double down with the one in Linn County and the one near Moravia.
I was going to say this also. A lot of you are naming places that are not weekend get away places. Not many people gonna fly out on Friday night and go to Charleston unless the OP already lives in that area.

Agree. Spending 2 days of 3 hassling with air travel is not relaxing in my book.
