Tuesday Story: Iowa State won’t “panic” in quest to solve offensive woes entering Big 12 opener

“Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell talked of tweaks, not wholesale changes. Improved execution, not a shift in philosophy.”

That feels concerning.
He coach speaks all the time at press conferences. And comments of complaints usually follow. I wouldn't read too much into the quotes out of today - but not stopping anyone from doing so.

But yeah, good week to bring up that Marchie did indeed catch it.

The one drive where we got aggressive happened to be the one drive where we moved the ball at will and scored a touchdown in seconds. We don't need to abandon the run game, but taking chances downfield has to be a part of getting that to open up for us.

I will say that Ohio (and obviously Iowa) had a very solid run defense, so hopefully we get better and the competition isn't as stout in that area.

Sorry Connor but I have to disagree. I have seen his actions over 8 years now. When a man shows you who he is… believe him.

It feels too often we are trying to run to set up the pass instead of passing to set up the run. I think teams are just daring us to try and pass it while they focus on stopping our run game. We love to run these 7 yard passes when it is 3rd and 8. How about we make that the 1st downplay and try to run when the pressure on the offense is only that they need to pick up a few yards instead of 10.

Get the defense off their toes. Pass till they realize that they need to help their Dbs. Throw balls for Higgins to catch over people. Then run when they are focus on stopping the pass.

Rob, did we watch the same game on Saturday? Tweaks, little changes, and toughness will not solve the problem. Even the transfer QB would be better than what we got. At least he could see over the O-line, and maybe scratching the idea that we must run to the ball all the time might help. 1-11 and kissing the basement floor, Rob.

I mean i don't think Rocco has been the issue on top of the fact that he is the same size as our winningest qb of all time. I would argue if there is any downside to Rocco is it feels like the play calling is handcuffing him. There is no reason to believe that JJ wouldn't even have even more conservative play calling if he played.

Yeah, Rocco has been better than I expected. Still young, and still makes mistakes, but he throws a nice ball and seems to have good instincts in the pocket.

It's a machismo thing.

Well, let's pile on the TEs. How many passes were thrown at the position? We were doggedly trying to run the ball for three quarters. Because that plan failed badly, let's blame it on the TE position. The OL, RB, and even the short, third-string QB could get some or all of the blame on our non-existent offense. His two interceptions and three fumbles does not give me a resounding reason for any respect for his play. But let us still blame it all on the TE play. 1-11 and kissing the basement floor.
The 907 guy is just trolling. He's posting variations of the same thing on multiple forum topics. He called Rocco a 3rd string qb and seemed to blame him and only him for our troubles lol

What I'm saying was you have no way of knowing whether he's just keeping his cards close to his shoulder or if changes aren't being made. I get his track record - that's my point.

Trust me I'd like to see changes too.
