I don't envy being in Nate's shoes right now, that's for sure. Let's say he is fully in charge of the offense now -- what system do you even run with the talent in front of you? You already know power run is hopeless. Outside running is hampered by poor WR and TE blocking. Horizontal passing is hampered for the same reason. You often don't have enough time in the pocket for downfield/aggressive passing (said pressure also being generated with only 3-4 defenders). Spread can be reasonably defended with the other 7-8 guys available most plays. You can run lots of PA and rollout type plays, but that regularly risks getting your QB killed and often cuts the field in half. Your WRs haven't shown the best ability to get separation from defenders and have been mistake-prone, making that and general air raid principles very hard to execute. Your young QB is staring down receivers a lot and not going through many progressions.

If I'm sitting there, I still decide I must pass the ball more. It's the only thing that moves the ball forward. But actually doing that in reality is questionable at best (on top of lengthening games out more, asking your defense to do more work than they already do).

It's a real **** sandwich.

what's your point? That would happen at any school if there was a coaching change. Depending on who you hire churning a roster could be either a good or bad thing...look at Colorado....

The rot is in Campbell himself. His game management, play calling, and winning in the margins coach speak are not working. He must change or else his job will.

How many years did Rhoads get? Campbell will get at least 1 or 2 years more. Reality.

********. Complaining. Constantly. Not a solution. Hurts more than it helps. Tears down our program. Hurts us with recruits because one of our biggest selling points is the great fans of Cyclone Nation. We definitely have offensive problems. Pressure is on for this weekend.

So being fake rah rah gets us anywhere either? Ahhh, lets just sit in the stands and watch on tv and be happy with the routine running up the middle into a brick wall that nobody saw coming. Trust the process though am I right? I definitely trust the 38 rushing yards that was lead by our sick QB. They didn't start throwing the ball more until the 4th quarter, a moment too late. Let the pass open up the run game, not the other way around.

Message boards are just that, message boards to allow fans opinions to be expressed. I don't know what the issue is in america, but it's soft as charmin. Nobody can accept any criticism and lets be fake and merry in this social media driven world we live in. I'm sure Campbell isn't happy with the result. I hope that he is looking at the drawing board thinking we have to do something different, because this is the definition of insanity. You made the staff changes, but if we continue to see the same result, all signs point to the obvious.

I'm all about being positive and spreading joy to lift this world up, we need that. We all loved those good seasons, but even then after seeing how much talent we had on the rosters, they still in a way were letdowns. That's reality. There has to be times where we can still talk about the issues at hand. I also don't get the fact that early in Campbells career he seemed to take more chances on creative plays every once in awhile just to do something different. That doesn't happen much anymore.

I don’t envy being in the players shoes. They’re in need of good coaching and a scheme that puts them in the best position possible to succeed

Instead they have an OC learning on the job under a HC that doesn’t know offense

Coaching offense under CMC isn’t good for Nate’s career though

But it’s optimistic Nate isn’t part of the problem. He’s the OC and shares some of the blame for a scheme that marginalizes players.

WR play under him hasn’t been sound. The run game coordinator since 2021…whoops

Yesterday has the same feeling of the infamous basketball loss to Florida A&M that was the beginning of the end for Steve Prohm.

That Florida A&M also came to my mind. This does feel eerily like the Prohm era. Getting by on talented players due to good recruiting.

I can’t say I want him out, but I felt the same way with Rhoads. I didn’t think anyone could love ISU the way he did.

But we made a move and got a guy.

I wanted to believe and have in him, but something’s not been quite right for a bit.

I feel like the context of college football, NIL and the di$position of our fan base puts ISU at even more of a disadvantage and not sure Matt has the desire to do it in this environment.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he goes back to DIII. I wouldn't blame him. I’d likely do or explore the same.

Now let's play this out, even if the team goes 1-11 this year, ISU is not going to fire Campbell, the guy has too much good will built up in the program with Pollard for him to be fired, plus the athletic departments does not have the money to buy him out of his contract, and even if someone stepped up to pay for it, which they won't, then it would cost even more to hire the new coach.

Now if that would happen, 1-11 he would be on a warm seat for the 2024 season, but I really doubt they would fire him then, unless the team was on a 20 some game losing streak.

So, for those that want him gone, Campbell is going to get the rest of this season, the 2024 season and most likely the 2025 season before he would be fired.

I'm not so sure. When things starting going south in 2017 when Park decided he is finished, didn't CMC say f it, change the defense and give someone who had rarely played college ball the starting QB job? What happened next at #3 OU?

How about in 2018 when things were going nowhere with Zeb Noland. Didn't CMC say f it and put in a freshman named Purdy who had never played a down in college ball and air it out at a ranked OSU team? What happened?

This coach is perfectly capable of playing balls to the wall football. He has done it before. He just doesn't want to do it now for some reason. He seems perfectly fine trying to imitate Kirk Ferentz.

And I don't think I'm off too far saying right now ISU fans would rather lose 45-38 than 10-7. Look like you have a purpose other than trying to keep it close.

I mean, half of this stuff just isn't accurate. We haven't run power, outside blocking is useless because we don't have anyone who can make a reach block though the TEs and WRs don't help, passing as an extension of the run just really isn't tried because short outs and sprint outs don't count as that, our pass protection has been largely fine if not good as seen by our TD drive on Saturday, and Becht/Brahmer have been the only bright spots in this offense to this point. Becht has made very little in the way of mistakes to this point with his last two INTs being the fault of the receiver, not him and he's very rarely (maybe never?) put the ball in real danger. He is literally the only major component that has been good and that's all despite having no help from the system and little help from the guys he's throwing it to. There has to be a concerted effort to put the ball in his hands because it's nearly impossible to make wholesale running game and scheme changes at this point and the OL isn't just going to show up and be good to very good which is what they'd need to be for this scheme to work. I would completely throw out multiple TE sets, split out my TEs and throw the ball with some run if you actually get light boxes because you almost definitely will because no one is going to dedicate extra resources to stopping our run until we prove we can beat a 5 or 6 man box.

You can make all the sly remarks about the record all you want, but no way does Pollard fire him at the end of the year if we do not win another game. What have you seen from Pollard that shows he has a quick fuse and is willing to fire a coach that he hired without at least giving him plenty of chances of turn the situation around? Chizik won 5 games in two years, and Pollard was going to give him a contract extension, Proem had plenty of time to fix the problem.
