Roughly how many tomatoes is a quart? Assuming by whole you mean fresh tomatoes

We use home canned, sorry. That would be two cans of whole tomatoes from the store. I'll edit the recipe.

Here you go:
  • Pork shoulder roast, about 4 pounds (take off strings)
  • 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 bottle (16 ounces) barbecue sauce, or 2 cups homemade sauce
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • Add a little liquid smoke and chefs secret

Preparation:

Place half of the thinly sliced onions in bottom of slow cooker; add pork and water, along with remaining onion slices. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours or 4 to 5 hours on HIGH heat setting. Drain liquid from slow cooker; chop the meat coarsely and discard excess fat. Put the pork back in the slow cooker. Add barbecue sauce and chopped onion. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours longer. Stir occasionally. Serve with warm split buns and coleslaw.
Serves 8 to 10.

Chili verde is pretty good. Country style pork ribs, tomatillos, garlic and some salsa verde. Cook on low for 5 or 6 hours.

Kielbasa Soup

1 ring kielbasa sliced thinly
2 16 oz cans of whole tomatoes
2 small cans mushroom pieces and stems
1 4 oz jar pimento
1 4oz can chopped green chilis
1 can butter beans
1 can red beans
1 can pork and beans
1/2 tsp Italian seasoning

Toss everything in crockpot and stir well. Put on low 4-6 hours or while you are gone to work. On your way home, stop and grab a bag of King's Hawaiian dinner rolls to serve along side. Life changing recipe we get asked to share all the time.
What size can for the beans? 15oz? Also, do the tomatoes cook down a bunch in the crock pot? My family isn’t a huge fan of tomatoes so I’m worried about large chunks of tomatoes.

Yeah the 15 oz cans. Tomatoes cook down. Try it and let me know what you think!

Sweet and Sour Pork

1.5 lbs pork, cut in chunks (I use pork steak)
1 - 20 oz can pineapple chunks
1/4 C brown sugar
2 T corn starch
1/4 C white vinegar
2-3 T soy sauce
1/3 tsp salt
1 small green pepper, cut in strips
1/4 C onion, chopped
1 stalk celery, cut in pieces (optional)

Roll chunks of pork in flour. Fry in hot oil (I use Crisco). Move to crockpot when all sides are browned. When all chunks are browned, discard grease. Make a gravy out of pineapple juice from the can, brown sugar, corn starch, vinegar, soy sauce and salt. Heat to boil. Add green pepper, celery, onion and 3/4 of the can of pineapple chunks. Mix together and pour over meat in crockpot.

Cook 2-3 hours on high or 4-6 hours on low. Before serving, add remaining 1/4 pineapple chunks.

Serve with rice or noodles.

I just put the butt in there with an onion sliced thin. Submerge the meat in water and cook low for 8 hours. Pull it out and shred. Clean out crock pot and put it back in with your preferred sauce.

When fresh, the meat needs very little sauce. After refrigerated, you’ll need to warm up with sauce to keep it from getting dry.

Macaroni and corn

Macaroni noodles (I usually cook way more than I use)
Velveeta cheese, cubed (as much or little as you want)
2 cans creamed corn
2-3 cans corn, drained
Butter - personal preference for how much

I cook the macaroni first.
Put all ingredients in crock pot, mix. Depends how soon you want it - put on low or high and occasionally stir until cheese/butter and melted and it's hot.

Some people add uncooked macaroni and then increase the butter. I made it this way once and the macaroni wasn't done, which is why I started cooking them first).

This isn’t a recipe, but it is a good use of your crockpot. Get a rotisserie chicken from Sam’s or Costco. Use the meat in your favorite way. Put all the bones, drippings, and skin in the crockpot. Cut up an onion, carrot or two, rib of celery or two and add to the pot with some salt and peppercorns. Cover with water. Turn your crockpot to low and let it go all night, if you start in the evening or all day, if start in the morning. After 10 or 12 hours your house will smell great. Strain the stock from the bones and vegetables and you willl have the best chicken stock/broth ever. I usually make chicken noodle soup with some of the stock and leftover chicken and freeze the remaining stock in 1 cup containers for later use. I haven’t bought canned chicken broth in years.

I always smoke the butt the day before and then put the meat in the crockpot with a little bit of bbq sauce the next day.

I have a similar recipe for the oven. It uses uncooked macaroni, but you don’t drain the wk corn.
