Another thread was discussing recruiting players from Iowa and the walk-on program was mentioned. Does anyone know who will be walking-on to the ISU football program? Do they still have something called the "preferred walk-on" title?

Yes they still have preferred walkons. A team is allowed 105 kids to be here during 2 a days and the preferred walkons are the 17 kids that fill the 105 since there are already 88 scholarship kids. The other walkons start on the first day of school.

Slight correction that the current scholarship limit is 85. PR is actually going into the fall at around 80. This number could change some if some existing walk-ons are granted scholarships in the fall. If they are good enough to be considered for a scholarship, they would certainly be included in the group of 105 that starts early. The number of existing walk-ons invited to practice early will determine how many new preferred walk-ons can be included.
