My story from today's game. I hope you guys enjoy it.

Rocco Becht showed poise and Matt Campbell built trust in his young quarterback during Saturday's Cy-Hawk game.

“Rocco Becht showed lack of playmaking ability, Campbell has no viable alternative” would be a better title.

I feel bad for journalists... are they forced to write positive articles?

It's a good article, and well written, don't get me wrong... just too ticked off right now to listen to people trying to sugarcoat this debacle today.

Why does CF staff (and the guys in Cyclone Reaction) insist on trying to spin the complete failure of our coaches on offense in the edit: 4th quarter?

We’re not children. We saw our coaches fail to speed up the tempo and give us a chance to win the game in the 4th quarter. It was pitiful. Everyone in the stadium knew it- stop carrying water for the coaching staff and call it like it is.

He played decent, just lacking any kind of weapons at all.

Our "team captain" who has been here 3 years now can't catch and somehow manages to lose yardage on all his punt returns.

We have Norton lined up as a receiver running an out route like a 4th grader, and now our tight ends are back to being non-existent.

We have a new OC who still thinks handing the ball off 5 yards behind the LOS on 3rd and 1 is a good play.

Just all around ineptness that wouldn't even be fixed if Brock Purdy suited up under center next week.

We haven't speed a game up since 2020.... why? IDK. Because we had Brock in 21, then Dekkers who had two years backing him up in 2022...

yes, it puts more pressure on a young QB but it also speeds up the defense and might get them off balance as well.

Right and wrong. He played OK. We don't have a ton of weapons but we have some weapons.

The main difference between him and JJ is I think while there are many things Rocco does just fine, I think he has a lower ceiling . He might have a higher floor but JJ has a higher ceiling.

And that shows when you're on the field.

Based on the headline of Campbell trusting Becht I think we watched completely different games. I saw early possessions where he forced a nonexistent run game and put him in 3rd and long clear passing situations and also never showed a downfield threat with play calling so Iowa could sit in 10 yard box and keep things in front all game.

Like who? Noel is suppose to be the best player and he can't catch. We get 4 star receivers like Gaines it seems like every year then they are buried 7 guys deep on the depth chart.

Easton Dean was suppose to be the next NFL tight end for 5 years now and he averages 1 target per game. They need some playmakers badly. I thought Rocco played a decent game but he has nothing to work with.

Play calling shows a complete lack of trust. The last drive for the TD proves it. If you know your QB is a playmaker you put the game in his hands. Campbell has zero faith in his QB.

QB was fine, but it was the ***** play calling that made us lose to that absolute dog **** team. Super embarrassing loss. Hoks will finish at the bottom of the garbage BIG West.

Also this is his first real game, in my opinion. The defense and overall talent level difference in the uni game really made that game not a real game. Rocco still has room to grow, he's a freshman for dam sake. Lots of drops for whatever reason. And the offensive play calling didn't seem to help him.
Like it or not Rocco is our guy. Kohl is not ready. I think Rocco showed some promise. At the end of the day we lost 5 starters and I'm not sure why we expected much better than this.

Now any criticism we may have on the coaching staff is another matter.

Rocco has the physical abilities, but he needs time to work on his skills. He doesn't go through any progressions and locks on to one receiver then stares him down. Pretty sad I could tell at the snap where the ball was going.

I understand being positive. but what is needed is a pointed focus on some shortcomings, and some accountability. this isn't changing without intervention.

Hard to tell with Rocco since the pocket collapses so fast and our receivers aren't all that hot. On a positive note..How about Cooper? ISU hasn't had a ball poacher like that in awhile. Play him both ways since he has better hands than most our WR's.

Also look at the experience of all of his weapons. Mostly sophomores and freshmen. I’m as upset as everyone else but, right now Rocco is our quarterback. I’m not sure that JJ will ever be a big time player.
