Tailgating Thoughts From the New C & D Lots

Lots are better in that the ditches are gone. People just plain ignored (as they always have) the edict about not setting up tents in second slots or out in the traffic flow areas. Speaking of…the traffic flow areas are narrower than before. Where I was I D5…there were more perimeter areas available for tents than ever before. The lots overall are a nice improvement.
We're in C5 and for the most part I liked it. I would like to know how many parking spaces that are no longer there because of the added drainage, bigger buffers from road, etc. I know quite a few spaces are gone just because B5, B4 and half of C5 and C4 being gone. I like how they have brought the grade of the lot even with the sidewalks now. One negative that could happen from C5 is there is now only one outlet from that lot to the lanes leaving the lots instead of an exit for each row like last year.
A3 - defintly a different vibe, big pile of open construction fenced off to the south. This lot still has the angled parking spaces which is huge and next to the ravine which allows you to pull forwad and have space to tailgate. The 90 degree parking spaces might be a tough go for all the big trucks to get in and out. nothing like a 20 point turn to get in and out?
Don't know how many donor parking spots are missing for this season, but I remember hearing when CyTown was announced that the total number of donor parking spots between JTS and Lincoln Way would either increase or decrease by only ~100 spots. I can't remember which direction the chance will be, but it's negligable.
Doesn’t matter to me, it was all PR anyway, because without force parking - enter and park following the one in front of you, the tailgating experience we have had will not be possible.
After parking and tailgating in the “free spot“ at the ends of angled rows for decades, I was concerned when I and many others stopped to monitor and measure the new parking spaces. Cyclones did an excellent job tailgating on the bark mulch In the available perimeter spaces.
People finding steel and concrete sewer lids to place grills two thumbs up.
Inner rows facing each other was a slightly different story. Space was restricted when cars arrive d after folks had setup. It required four people to assist the driver going forward and backward to get lined up with the few available spaces in the reduced “C” lots. Oh the pleasures of angled parking.
The 30 minute lines before opening gates was roundly ignored, but the use of flashing illuminated signs indicating lot numbers was a benefit for those standing the wrong lines. Scores of people jumping out of cars in lines to save spaces, was once frowned on is now going to be a common practice.
PortaPotties maybe limited for the Iowa game. Placing them on a six inch high pile of mulch, one foot from the curb and foot from a parked car, wasn’t too convenient.
My condolences to those in the large hoard of folks waiting in line before the game, watching the helicopter fly over praying for a breeze, and finally getting through the new machines at start of the second quarter. This will no doubt improve for the Iowa game or perhaps not…
Will parking spaces be saved for employees and customers using CyTown? Or are those spaces to used by the “C” lots? I’m sure the dynamics or logistics have been calculated, as someone said, ‘we are an engineering school”.

We showed up at a decent time and people had already set up tents blocking the path for cars. Where do they think people are going to drive if the path is blocked.
We decided to forego tailgating because of the heat yesterday. We drove to our parking space in C4 at about 12:45. Everybody had typically taken down their tailgates by then so our parking experience was like a dream. Just drove to an empty stall and parked. Night and day compared to A3 parking last year. Of course we took the car and didn’t have a land yacht yesterday. The nightmare was trying to get into the game. We will probably have a tougher go next week for the game.

They killed a TON of great parking spots. Pull your vehicle 8 feet into the ditch and have TONS of space behind the vehicle to tailgate.
I think we're in D4 and there are about 20 parking spots you can actually tailgate in. The rest are garbage....hence people using the fire lane.

Would greatly disagree. I’m in D5 and I think there are more usable spots to put up tents around the perimeter than ever before.
Showing up 45 minutes after kickoff probably helped avoid the crowd.
I mistyped. We're D4.
The row on the west side is great. Outside that is very poor which is why the fire lane went to hell.
Is it true some folks were moved to VetMed, when lots were reconfigured for CyTown due donor level and longevity?

As in someone had a parking pass for a Jack Trice lot and was told to go to Vet Med?
My only complaint about those lots. If you aren’t there 5-6 hours before kick, you will drive by dozens of parking spots with tailgating tents set up in them.
I mean, I get it because you are either going to be a. In a parking spot or b. In the middle of the driveway, but it’s still inconvenient.
