*** Official UNI vs IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Curious that he seems to think it’s worthwhile to make it a 19-point game instead of kicking the point & being down 20. What’s the possible advantage there?

EDIT: Maybe, as my son likes to keep telling me, if you know you need a 2-point conversion at some point in your comeback, you should try for it early instead of waiting for the final score
There's a go-for-one/go-for-two chart that every coach has. It says when you're down by 21 you go for two. If you go for one and make it or go for two and miss it doesn't matter because whether you're down by 20 or 21 you have to score three touchdowns to go ahead....two touchdowns and two successful two point conversions leaves you still down by 4 or 5 and you need a third touchdown.

But if you make a touchdown that puts you down by 21 and you go for two and make it then you're now down only by 19 and you only need to score two touchdowns and a field goal to tie. 6+2 +6 +2 + 3 and you're tied.

I'm good with solid, but not fancy, special teams. Just don't make the big mistakes. Fair catches are fine.
I might go so far to say that the that Cyclone special teams have been more than solid today: had a 56 yd FG and Perkins is averaging 53 yds/punt on 7 punts. W/our defense, that special teams play will keep the Cyclones in almost every game.

Well... instead of putting them away we're f***ing around. That kinda ticks me off.
We are up 21, maybe not for long, and aren't we playing a lot of non starters now?

The plus to that is we might be saving our guys from injury, in a game we are well ahead in, and we are getting a lot of players game reps.

I'm pretty happy with how the game is going/went. It's natural to want to pile on, or win by more though.

Can we step on a juggular instead of stepping off the gas?

We very may see an onside kick coming in a game we were up 30.
Would be nice wouldn’t it!

But remember, we’re resting starters, duh. We were not trying to get first downs. We were just practicing (…practicing not getting first downs). All those FBS teams that blow out FCS schools and score 40, 50+ points - are silly. We know something they don’t!

What’s the over/under on total offensive touchdown next week between Iowa vs Iowa State? 2.5?
