Campbell vs Prime

Can I say this might be a Prime example of why we like CMC?

It will be interesting to watch the Coach Prime experiment. It is ongoing still. It will either be crash and burn in the Big 12, or it will be continued in the P2.

theyre complete opposites in the way they speak and present themselves, but from building a program from the ground up, id bet there are more similarities there than you think.

i honestly think theyd get along.

I think he’ll actually prefer college over the NFL because the coach seems more face of a program in college. If successful enough to get nfl offers of course.

I don’t think he is saying “culture doesn’t matter” meaning that players have no accountability or expectations for how to carry themselves.

I think he is trying to make the point that talent and ability matter FAR more than the “culture” you set up. I feel like it’s far more a critique of “row the boat” a la PJ Fleck than it is a critique of “be accountable and positive in your community.”

When Campbell and Deion talk about “culture” they’re talking about different things.

This is going to end poorly for Colorado.

I don't see how. If he was following up a successful period like the McCartney years then yeah, I get the sentiment. But he is coming into one of the more disastrous P5 programs of the last decade. He should be able to recruit to Boulder and if he can't he's really screwing up.

I think it was a gamble worth making for them. I'm not a Deion fan, never have been, even since his playing days. But while I don't like his style it's not like he's a deplorable human being, at least relative to his peers, so really don't see him running a worse program than anyone else. Remember, we are talking about a sport that has employed the likes of Freeze, Petrino, Kiffin etc, often giving these pukes multiple chances after disgraces.

He'll be 'fine'.

Well, since culture doesn’t matter to Coach Prime, I’m guessing many off field issues will eventually lead to very poor on field performances
What makes you say that? From everything I've seen he has very high expectations for how those players carry themselves. Sure Sanders is an egotistic self centered prick but he never had any off the field issues that I can remember as a player and you never heard about issues with his team at Jackson State so why would that be any different in Boulder?

Fair enough. I hope I can eventually admit my error in judgment. It just surprises me that a coach would say that culture doesn’t matter.

I appreciate his honesty. His stuff about the types of kids that he recruits depending on position is something that all coaches do but he has the cache to actually say it out loud. I don' think culture is going to be an issue and he's going to get talent. He's also been smart enough to hire really good coordinators because he knows what he doesn't know.

I think he'll do as well as you can possibly do at Colorado.
