The family is saying that Oher and the family split the initial money equally and then the big amount was split 50% Oher and 50% the family and it was to be donated to charity per the film owners. SJ is saying that he has family texts where Oher is basically trying to blackmail the family.

Jr.'s suggests in his interview that The Atlantic article will show this assertion to be untrue.

Why would you assume that? The elder Tuohys are a wealthy southern conservative family. Given what I've seen from the The Atlantic over the last few years, if I had to make an assumption, I'd assume the opposite.

Two reasons: I’ve seen articles in the Atlantic with a conservative perspective. Also if Sean Tuohy jr. is saying “there’s an article in the Atlantic that will explain the finances” then it is going to be helpful to their side.

I saw that in a Reddit thread too, and I could see how it would help on the NCAA front, but I still don’t think that would legally make him a part of the family. That’s not really what conservatorships do. Also, after some brief googling (so take it for what it’s worth) it looks like adult guardianships are pretty easy to do in Tennessee. You just sign some forms, give notice to birth parents (if any) and have a hearing where the judge signs off. So I have no idea why it would be faster to do a conservatorship (another claim I’ve seen).
 
Was listening to ESPN radio talkshow this morning where one of the guests interviewed (didn't catch who he was) said that when the movie came out, he didn't like that the focus was on the Tuohys instead of on Oher. "If you want to make a movie about the athlete, the focus should be on the athlete. It seems that the focus was on the family".

The show also discussed that, regardless who is right, who is lying, this is a good opportunity to highlight situations where we have athletes coming from impoverished background, coming from another country (and some of them can't speak English) and there are tons of "sharks" out there, ready to take advantages. There are great and wonderful people who truly want to take care of these young men and women, but there are also tons who take advantages.

Britney Spears’ father was profiting off of her conservatorship. Maybe the Tuohys were profiting as well. Grifters.
 
That movie sucked. Never understood the appeal. It was another cheesy, terrible Disney sports movie. I mean of course these people aren’t good people. Common sense would have told you that back when Oher and this movie gained so much publicity and that the family took him in because they knew he would be a big time prospect and possible future draft pick.

Or, maybe some shark layer is trying to profit off of Oher's (perfectly justifiable) displeasure with how Oher was portrayed in the movie. Their lawsuit(s) against the movie owners failed, so now the lawyer is just moving down the line.

If what SJ said is true in that Barstool podcast, and Oher has filed previous lawsuits regarding this movie, there is no way he didn't know the details of the conservatorship.

Have we seen the statement that Oher or his attorney sent? Because if it’s just a letter that says “you did x, give me 15 mil or I will sue, and you will not look good in the court of public opinion,” that’s a demand letter and a normal part of litigation.

Is it possible Oher is more in the wrong than the Tuohys? Of course. But I am not going to necessarily believe that this is a huge deal based on a statement by their attorney and an article by TMZ. I also still don’t understand why they needed a conservatorship to do the things they claim in the lawyer’s statement. So he needed help applying for a driver’s license and applying to college. Makes sense, but why did they have to be his conservators as opposed to helping him?

I guess we will find that out in the trial.
