Principal Financial-Remote work

You don’t think corporations, of all things, won’t come to that conclusion?
AI replacing jobs has nothing to do with someone being able to do a job on their own. Honestly AI is going to make it much easier for one person to do a job remotely that use to take a team of people to do. So your take is back asswards.

I'm a strong believer in 80/20 remote/in-person. The 20% in person is for creativity and collaboration and the 80% remote is for actually being able to focus and get things done.
I agree.

What we've settled on at work is most people work 2 days in the office and 3 days out. There are exceptions both ways. Then there are 2 "core" days a month where everybody is in and things like our United Way auctions, all-company meetings, etc are scheduled for those days.

I think the ratio is dependent on the job, but I agree that the hybrid model works well. We do a 60/40 office/home and it works. Take care of the meetings and collaboration Tuesday through Thursday and spend Monday and Friday to get work done. What this also does is encourage people to schedule meetings on those office days and it keeps people from disrupting your solo work time with meetings.

Whatever. AI… off shore resources like the post above mentioned….

Whatever the solution is. Shareholders will question your expense if you can work from home.

It’s not back asswards thinking. It’s how corporations make decisions time and time again. More with less.

Working from an office will not protect workers either.

If AI is coming for your job then it's coming for your job

You are all over the place trying to make some kind of point, I'm just not sure what it is.

I’m not sure what’s hard to follow.

If you can work from home, a corporation will eventually find a cheaper way to get your job done. And your job won’t exist.

I personally would consider the current benefit of working from home carefully and weigh it against long term stability.

Office good. Remote bad.

I'm surprised to see so many look at in person as a creative time. Meetings and stuff are so time-wasting and draining for me that it kills my creativity. I do that stuff best where I can be off thinking, and then maybe talk with someone about results.

Aren't they going to already? If my job can be replaced, whether I work in the office or not, they are going to replace it not because they like hanging out with me 2-3 days a week.

WFH will be the first cost cutting priority.

I’m not arguing that people CAN work from home. Just predicting how this ultimately progresses.

So you think the simple fact you have to go into the office to do your job protects you from being replaced by AI?

I think if you claim you don’t need to collaborate with others consistently, your job will be the priority to find cheaper ways to get done.
So you think the cheaper way to get things done is to have AI complete tasks one person can do from home rather than replace an entire team of people that require office space to collaborate?

Jesus dude. AI was a random solution.

Off shoring white collar jobs to a low cost country is another.

Let’s come back to this thread in a decade. I hope I’m wrong, but I guess you have more faith in corporations than I do.

Everyone applauded unions for negotiating higher wages these last couple years due to company’s record profits. Good for them. What are those manufacturing companies doing now? Investing heavily in automation to save costs and reduce those blue collar jobs.

Thinking a white collar job that can easily be done remotely is immune to cost savings seems optimistic to me. That’s all.

Do I think remote work can be successful? Sure. Do I think corporations will exploit that fact in the name of share price? Absolutely.
