Summer Bahamas Trip

You will have to go look back a few days. Like I said I’m not on here enough to care. I have a life and it’s not sitting on message boards all afternoon. Have a good one don’t backpedal too much.

Oh you must be trolling and referring to when I said it was more about gelling on and off the court regardless of talent they faced. While you backpedal yourself. That's weird that you 'don't have the time' but you took such strong note of what I wrote.

Yep, it's still what I'm going with. I don't know if the talent level was higher today, but it still provided good situations and gelling for the team.

I have nothing to go off other than posts on this thread and the results of each game/scrimmage. Obviously, this wasn't Big12 competition. Regardless, I'm optimistic. Lipsey is going to be a leader. There is, as Jayshellburg said, diversified scoring. I don't think defense will regress significantly. Keeping a deep lineup engaged will be important, but I'm confident TJ and this staff is up to the task.

Seems like our veterans in King, Lipsey, Ward, Jones and Watson will provide the effort, experience and backbone of this team, while the newcomers will provide a lot of the scoring punch.

And I think you’re reading way too much into what I said. The ONLY thing that I meant was that you don't want to get into the situation of blowing leads and not being able to close out games. No matter when the game is or who it's against. At the time I posted, that had at least a small possibility of happening. But it didn't...looks like Keshon made some plays, which is awesome. I'd rather have a close game and squeak out a win than lose a big lead. But both are learning experiences I guess.
I guess we have different definitions of “blowing leads”. Last time I checked, maintaining a 9 point lead isn’t a “blown lead”

I don’t know that blowing a 14 point lead in the 4th quarter is the kind of experience you want.
Tim Floyd would set it up so that the team lost preseason games, presumably to focus them. He seemed to do pretty well at ISU.

I followed along with the box score and play by play and here were my takeaways from game 3:

1. This is Lipsey's team. He was the only player to play 30+ minutes, and the whole team seemed to play better when he was in.

2. Ward will be up and down. He started, but ended up playing the same amount of minutes as Jones (both sub 20). When he plays well he's our best 5, but I think there will be stretches where he doesn't have it and we'll need to rely on Jones or go small.

3. Speaking of going small, I thought we might see some Billiew at the 3, but instead it looked like there were stretches where they played him as a small ball 5.

4. Continuing on Billiew he's not as ready as I thought he would be. He only played about 6 minutes while the game was contested, then got four in garbage time. Still plenty of time but his development curve might be longer than we initially thought.

5. The transfers are reliable. Pav, Gilbert, Curtis, and Tre all provided solid scoring and each of them had a few rebounds or assists. These guys all played ~20 minutes and will be responsible for maintaining the high floor TJ has made us accustomed to the last couple of years.

6. Momcilovic has some developing to do as well. He played 15 minutes and went 1-4 from 3. I think he will be up and down for a while, hopefully he's fully settled in for March.

7. Watson is our defensive stopper. Notably TJ subbed him in when the other team had the ball with 25 seconds left in the first half. I don't think he will play as much as the other guards in the rotation, but his defense will keep him involved.

Did Omaha not play the last game?
Very limited minutes from the box score. And seemed to get in foul trouble relatively quick as well. Think he is probably a step or 2 slow processing rotations with coming to camp late. I am optimistic he figures it out by the time the season begins.

Probably doing the typical freshman thing of trying to play so hard to keep with the program expectations that he's overplaying some things and getting fouls.

Yeah I guess in-game comments during a timeout when the lead had just dropped from 20 to 9 should not be allowed. I apologize for breaking your rules.

"I don’t know that blowing a 14 point lead in the 4th quarter is the kind of experience you want."

Or maybe make factual statements, even during the game.

Being a bit slow in rotations is likely due to arriving late to the team practices with his teamUSA duties. Omaha has a totally new system and teammates to adjust to and I would guess the coaches want to ease him in during the exhibition games. Not surprising if OB still learning and thinking on the court thus a step slow.
I will still be surprised that after 2.5 months of practice he won't be starting by game 1.

I’m saying you don’t want that experience. And no team does. I did NOT say it was going to happen. It would have been a monumental collapse if it did. Which no team wants. That was my point.

Go ahead and move on. I’ve explained myself about 5 times now.

Your comment was made after the game ended. Hence you phrased it in past tense. And again, it was an exhibition game. I highly doubt the players and coaches were concerned about winning or losing. You heard Kansas lost one of these exhibition games the other day, right? I can't imagine what your reaction would be if you were a Kansas fan

The angles at this level are different. You can't make up for lost position with arms and leaping ability. Guys are savvier with pumpfakes and drawing fouls. He'll adjust and be fine. What a luxury that our Top 10 5-star forward might come off the bench to start the season.

Puerto Rico giving Texas a&m all they can handle today. Also, a reminder that when they played LSU the other day, LSU had to pull out a close W in the final minutes.

It’s an experimental trip and I’m not a believer in basing how good a team is by comparing results of similar opponents, the game is too complex for that …….but…….. the fact that Iowa State had pretty much a 15 to 22 point lead the majority of the game should be a good sign.

Just wanted to share for the overcritical takes on yesterdays game against Puerto Rico. Lots more room for this team to continue meshing, growing and getting better. Very excited for this season.

I need to know how we're going to compete with Iowa this year so we need the one stat that hasn't been provided. How are the bounce passes looking?
