there is a report that the big 10 will go to 10 conference football games with the addition of UW and OR. Will the big 12 consider going to 10 big 12 games? and if both conferences do that will the Iowa/ Iowa State game be taken off the table in the non conference schedule.

just a question. i love the iowa rivalry game but i can see the problem of having it remain.

thanks what is everyones thoughts?

We aren’t going to 10 voluntarily. If the networks want to pay for more games, the so be it.

I'm all for more and better college football games.

The standard should be...

One cupcake (ideally another Division 1A and no more FCS teams, like Iowa State/Ohio)

One peer rival from another conference (e.g., Iowa State/Iowa or Clemson/South Carolina)

10 conference games

Certain schools will never do this. TOE plays 7 home games every year, non negotiable. It’s in their DNA. It’s how they win 9-10 games regularly.

The networks are probably going to require 10 games. They need the matchups to pay for their overvalued contracts they signed with the SEC and B1G.

I've been saying this on here for years. If I'm the TV Networks, and I am in control truly, I am forcing schools to play all P5 schools. No cupcakes. I'm not paying Alabama $75M to play Citadel in late October.

What is the financial impact to drop future non-con games for all teams across multiple P5 conferences? Iowa State has non-con games already scheduled through 2030.

They can’t require it within the current deals. They’d have to renegotiate or wait until the next round of contract talks. I doubt either conference would do this for competitive reasons. It’ll be about that money. We’ll see if the networks value that extra game or not.

Bigger deal is what does that do to the SEC? They’ve been headstrong into staying at 8 conference games. If the Big10 and Big12 go to 10, that’s a lot of pressure for them to make a change too. Now with Fox controlling more of the narrative with their superior Saturday shows, that’s going to be hard for the SEC to get the public support of how the SEC schedule is just so much harder than everyone else.

Iowa's gonna find out in a real hurry that their opinions and traditions don't mean sh!t.
With the BIG eliminating divisions and the addition of four good teams….Iowa is doomed to be a middle of the road team in conference standings. If ISU could become consistently decent and capable of beating Iowa…the eastern team will want to drop our game to get a win.

Pretty sure Ohio is a FBS team as it is a member of the Mid-American Conference.

If the B1G moves to a 10 game conference slate CyHawk will be done.

I could see them requiring more non con matchups between the leagues they broadcast. ESPN will want an SEC v ACC game on everyone's schedule. Fox will want Big 12 v Big 10. etc...

There's been a lot of discussion online about schedules, how are they going to determine conference champions, and stuff like that. I could definitely see in the future the Iowa St./Iowa game going by the wayside due to that. With an 18 team conference, they're going to have to adjust somehow.

What do you think the last time Ohio State had fewer than 7 home games was (non covid)?

Answer: 2004 (played 11 game schedules then and previously)

2023 will be the next time OSU plays 6 home games, they played 8 home games last year.

Michigan hasn't played fewer than 7 home games since 2004 and has 7 again in 2023

I'm not sure where y'all got it into your heads that only Iowa wanted 7 home games. It brings in far more money for the people with 100k+ stadiums than it does Iowa.

Hey, ease up on Michigan. Their noncon this year is UNLV, East Carolina, and Bowling Green after last year's gauntlet of Colorado St, Hawaii, and UConn.
