They will be out of options. I don’t even think the four Pac-12 leftovers will have the juice to pick and choose their additions. They can’t pay exit fees for other schools and they have no TV deal.

Assuming OR/WA to the B1G and the Four Corners to the B12… The most likely outcome, I think, is a “merger” in name only of those four with the Mountain West. That merged league would take on the Pac-12 name and branding and the MWC would officially dissolve. Basically the four leftovers would sell the Pac’s cache to the MWC in order to get them to come over and keep the Pac-12 (Pac-16?) alive in name only.

The alternative is giving up athletics entirely. I don’t think even Cal or Stanford will pull a UChicago and do that.

Super league. Give it time. Ohio St and Bama don't even need to leave the B1G or SEC. Just the football teams will dip out to play in ESPN's Premier League. Everything else will stay the same. It's actually easier to do if you leave 10-12 teams behind, because the left-behinds can still play a full conference schedule in the B league.

TV money wants consolidation. Money is undefeated.

Stanford/cal could go football independent and play vs other mostly crazy expensive private CA schools in WCC. If it’s as much about “culture” as they claim that’s a better fit than big ten has ever been, maybe better fit than Pac.

Hate to burst your bubble, but you think a conference with the leftovers from the P12, B12, ACC and some G5 schools is sitting at the same table with what the SEC and B10 would look like at that point? This is pretty obviously a 2 conference race.

This is lazy thinking. The landscape could change drastically between now and the end of the ACC media rights deal. Plus ND is still an independent. All of that gives the Big 12 time to get into a better bargaining position. I trust BY will put us in the best position possible for when that time comes.

It will happen once schools can/forced pay players directly. But once that happens that will make the college football a "pro-sport" and the conferences will be able to negotiate collectively and not worry about anti competition laws.

I’d almost say that FSU is pretty much demanding it already.

Seems to me, if they actually thought they could do something to get out of the ACC, they'd be doing those things, instead of making loud threats. Puffing out their chest like this feels performative, and not much else.

Stanford doesn’t need broadcast money. Cal is getting money from UCLA’s share. I know of no one that would pay. Or even watch for free.

Oh boy do I have a few thoughts on this. The state passed a law last year that homeowners can xeriscape their yards and cities or HOAs can’t stop them. So guess what we did .

This year, they “clarified” the law saying HOAs can require up to 50% turf. So we are in a battle with our HOA because we just did the xeriscaping without prior approval and did all rocks and desert plants.

We live in a newer neighborhood, with homes still being built. The developers still control the HOA until all the homes are completed. They want lush green lawns. Because short-term property values and profits.

Without ORWA there is no deal. And they are going to leave. No way is B1G going to allow ORWA to Big 12. Strengthens Big 12.

Creates dischord in the conference. Get a powerful small group together and make the situation as ****** as possible, piss as many people off as possible, find deal.

The Big 12 needs to push for Oregon and Washington, they're the best brands available and there's no guarantee the B1G is going to offer them more money for a tougher path to the playoff. Media buyers can get them into a P3 slot much cheaper over time than putting them in the B1G, so they should be more willing to step up.

Way too many people in here content with being a distant third place in the football arms race.

UO, UW, and UA is the correct play.

I hope you're right. I just saw it referenced recently, and I'm hoping it is now talk of the past.

If they were to ever do such a thing, like one superconference of 24 teams, it would be such a dumb thing. Talk about eating the goose that lays the golden eggs!

In that case it’s more likely that they try to join the Ivy League or something as opposed to independent football and WCC membership.

Still think they’ll hold their nose and take the Mtn West option if it comes with an ability to keep the Pac-12 name (which it would through a merger).
