If I am Yormark I use this as pressure to get AZ to commit this week and sit back. IF the Big10 is willing to move to 20 now and break up the ACC to do so then there will be better options on the market looking for homes. ASU Utah can then plead their case to get one of the Big12 spots (if Yormark doesn't want to go to 20 too).

Exactly. What do I know, but I just cannot see them taking all 4. 20 members is a huge huge conference, and anything past that would cause too many issues IMO. If they moved to 20 now, they would obviously have to go over 20 to add ND or any ACC schools. I bet they conclude their assessment with a "no" for now, and they come and grab a couple when the next media window comes into focus.

It also puts 6 teams on the west coast, which could make a tiny unified front. CCGs in LA or SF type stuff. The talk nicely to the 3 other new teams and now it’s an 11-9 split on ideas possibly. Imagine the big 10 with the Cali schools during Covid. There would not have been any conference games.

This is likely major bullsh*t or super misleading at best. I don’t know who leaked it or what their motive was but someone wanted media to look here instead of somewhere else. Think about it: you mean to tell me that after a months of this Colorado stuff and the last week the waters out west being especially boiling, that just TODAY the BIG started “preliminary” and “exploratory” discussions? What utter crap. They added the LA schools without anyone knowing. They’ve had a plan for MONTHS if not YEARS. There’s some super gullible people out there if they buy this.

Oh, I think it makes sense from a negotiating standpoint. They've clearly talked to some of those programs, especially Oregon and Washington, and I think they may be throwing out a life preserver with all sorts of strings attached to see if they can pick them up cheaper than expected.

If we take in all these teams from out west they’re gonna want to have the conference basketball tournament in Vegas every few years. I’m not totally opposed. Just wondering if we print out the Hilton West shirts now or wait to see if apple will pay us more money for the t-shirt rights?

How well attended is the PAC tournament there now? I have no issue with moving it as long as the fanbases that care will show up. OKC was a disaster because no one in the South cared. Watching the non-ISU and other conferences from the Circa pool would be a blast. Maybe Chris can hook it up so ISU can get a section of the pool for an event?

I’ll say it again like I did 20,000 posts ago. I don’t see the big ten/fox letting Oregon and Washington get into the big 12. It will definitely make the big 12 stronger. Media outlets want to grow the big 12 but with the leftovers. Oregon/Washington will be with big ten soon or be down the road with them staying with pac now. With playoffs expanding Oregon and Washington have chance of making it year in year out.

Would this make Fox less likely to want to move past 14? The Big10 wouldn’t add these for free and then adding these 4 will cost Fox a lot more than the 4 for the Big12. Also, I can’t imagine the Big10 is going to just add a couple more games to Peacock. They’re going to want another big boy time slot. Does that hurt the Big12’s chances at landing that last open time slot Fox has?

Less than half of what the Big12 does on the early games and 6k less in the championship. Champ game doesn't even sell out last year when it was 1v2 UCLA and Arizona and those are the two closest schools

Big Ten only adds members if it, at minimum, keeps the per school payout the same. I haven't heard that adding Oregon and Washington would do that. And who in their right mind thinks adding Cal and Stanford would.

Right now the Big Ten is projected to distribute $80M per year at the low end. I don't see adding those four as a minimum break even.

It's a bluff to keep them from jumping at a Big 12 lifeline.

Even if both PAC schools were valued at approximately what the rest of the league is getting, most of B1G membership knows TV exposure for them falls under their deal if they add more mouths to feed with a fixed number of media slots. They will be interested, but not until the next big media deal rolls around and they see how their more preferred options turn out.

So…..that’s a no then.

But then again, if we go to 16 teams does that mean double byes or do we find a location with two arenas (Vegas) and run an 8 game first round? Orlando would also be an option at ESPN.

What is this broad talking about? The B1G already delivered the fatal blow when they ran off with the only two cash cows the PAC had.

This could be legit smoke from the Big 10 if you look at it from a higher level.

While the overall per school might not be much different, I could see this as a way to force the inevitable in a quicker pace than was expected. At some point leagues and school Presidents want things to settle down as they’re incredibly risk averse and have huge contract and budget concerns to plan for. Constant change makes that much more difficult.

If they can get to 18 or 20 schools now, they’re likely done changing for quite some time and that alone increases value - direct or indirect.

This all assumes the ACC stays frozen in place. If that breaks lose, well then chaos.
