Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

If they somehow didn’t add UA (or Oregon, Utah et al.) to get to 14, they could always look elsewhere besides UConn. WSU? Memphis? Etc…

We’re talking “worst case scenario”. This is like the baseline of a worst case scenario (we’re stuck at 13, not able to create the 9-game schedule our TV contract requires, thus invalidating it).

While I’m not a steel cupper in my fandom, you honestly don’t want to underestimate the kind of rabbit hole my imagination can take a worst case scenario.

Thamel is always spot on, so I fully believe the 3 want to move together. I also see this as Utah and ASU giving the B12 a heads up that they want a 15th and 16th spot made available thru ESPN/Fox, and a reverse leveraging similar to the B12 saying they only have room for one more. To me, this is signaling if the deal presented tomorrow is indeed a dud, all 3 are fully ready to make the move. That being said, if for some reason only 14 spots are indeed available, AZ still probably comes over. As much as ASU and Utah seem like they would not fully fit the B12 culture, if they want to come over you have to take them.
Take them but make them take reduced shares for a few years just for being dicks this whole realignment process.

Id like to see Utah left out but if they come we have a unanimous replacement for Texas as the most hated team in the league. They're be the most fun option, they care more than any PAC school. They have the chip on the shoulder and saltiness of a big 12 team.
I think soon enough we will all discover that UCF will take that role.

So PAC 12 wouldn’t even reveal the deal they had before Colorado left. Colorado and Prime leave and the PAC 12 gets a blockbuster deal a few days later? GK should be fired for not releasing the deal earlier then.

IMO the reason for the statement that Arizona prefers to go with ASU and Utah as well. Putting pressure on BY and Big 12 to take all 3. And not just one team.

more likely that several schools (maybe even all of them), said show us the deal you said you had at media days on August 1st. The real question is if there is any actual deal to present vs the speculated streaming 20 mil per team deal. I would say there’s a 25% that there isn’t even an actual deal to present that could be signed today.

Does AZ (and possibly ASU/Utah) want to be apart of something that has stability and will get eyeballs and you'll also receive 7-10 million dollars more?

Colorado's reasoning makes perfect sense. Want to continue to be apart of ESPN/Fox. Have stability with a new, 7 year deal. Good balance of streaming/linear.

You guys need better vision for a worst case scenario. After all, we are Iowa State.

- Kliavkoff announces a blockbuster PAC/ACC merger with a pending media deal close to SEC per-school

- Notre Dame shrugs, says they’re on board with B1G

- B1G swoops in to add Kansas as well

- Yormark overreacts, adds UConn … plus USF, Tulsa, and the Colorado School of Mines

- FOX/ESPN say whoa, there, that wasn’t our deal, sorry, here’s $15 million as a parting gift but we’re done with the B12

- Okie State, Cincinnati & WVU head to the PACACC

- Iowa State asks if the MWC still has an opening

See? You gotta start really thinking outside the box for WORSE worst case scenarios.

See, you didn’t take it far enough…

MWC and AAC decline our applications, forcing ISU to join the MAC, giving Hok fans their biggest wet dream ever.

If the deal happens to be what has been thrown out there (around 20 million per school and mostly streaming), I don't see how there's anyway that AZ takes that. I also don't see how any of ASU, Utah, Oregon or Washington stay as well.

Both Colorado and UConn fit in the “just okay” category, which doesn’t seem like a smart way to use slots 13 and 14 in the current environment; BUT Colorado comes with a couple of factors that really elevate them:
"Just okay" is what the Big12 is going to get, and what they are going to be. Clemson isn't walking thru the door.

Big12 is going to be all the "that guys" - all the underdogs and "remember when they had that great run for a year or two" schools. But that is OK. If anything, it will be more competitive and exciting than wondering if its going to be Michigan or OSU this year?

They may have Coke and Pepsi, but we have literally ALL the other flavors - Orange Crush, root beer, Dr Pepper, cream soda, et al. So what if UConn is ginger ale? Once in a while someone at the party will want one, and bam! there it is in the back of the Big12 fridge.

With an odd number of teams, you have one team with a bye each week, but it seems like you can still schedule 9 games for each team. Big 10 had 11 teams for awhile and they still were able to schedule enough conference games.

It isn't mathematically possible to have a 9 game conference schedule with an odd number of teams. Try to chart it out, you can't do it.

I was in Colorado last week when that all went down. The couple Buff fans I saw had no clue and truly didn’t seem to care.
Those have to be pretty casual fans though. I have friends and family that are CU fans and they all starting blowing up my phone when the announcement came last week.

I feel like I've seen some hesitation on Oregon and Washington but you 100% take them if they are wanting to join.

1. They definitively kill the PAC. Right now it's probably done regardless but the landscape could change in a few years so being 100% certain of this is good.

2. You elevate the top end of the Big12. You're adding 2 of the the very few programs who have been to the playoffs.

3. Points 1 and 2 mean the Big 12 is now looking at 2 maybe 3 playoff births every year vs 1.

4. I'm not convinced they will have an opportunity to jump. SEC isn't taking them and the Big10 already could have them if they want. And even if they do move to the Big 10 in a few years that will time out with end of the ACC GOR and the Big 12 can just fill in from there Once the top teams defect from the ACC.

5. They won't be Texas. The league is unified and we would be saving them. I don't think they'd be able to throw much weight around. A lot of these ADs would be ready to deal with any BS.
All good points. And here's the thing - if UW/UO bail for the B1G 5 years from now, you can easily backfill with ASU and Utah then. Or ASU and Cal if you want to make the entire BYU fanbase simultaneously climax.

My parents are large donors to ISU athletics, season ticket holders, etc. Didn’t know that BYU, UCF, etc were in the conference and had no clue Colorado stuff went down. Every fan base has people that don’t obsess about this crap.
