Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Is the PAC 12 branding really better than the MWC? I could see a merger and then taking the MWC branding. MWC isn’t viewed too bad. It would be seen as the MWC moving up instead of the scraps of the PAC 12.

Ask that sports writer who couldn't tell if Big 12 or AAC was stronger brand.

"Kliavkoff held a meeting with Pac-12 Presidents and Athletic Directors on Thursday and sources indicate to WildcatAuthority that it could not have gone worse. At a time where the schools want and need clarity, Kliavkoff was unable to give it."
When the Pac statement earlier today that the timeline was still a media deal and then expansion, but we weren't seeing numbers or partners, we all could have guessed it went poorly. Arizona wants to save face with its PAC friends. However, Scheer has me convinced Arizona is Big12 bound. There is zero reason to wait longer than they already have for a deal we all know isn't great.

Oregon State and Washington State should have made the jump before we added the 4 schools. We would have taken them at that point. Now we are in the power spot.
Yep- that ship sailed…I feel bad for them, but they should’ve seen this coming. Like CW said, the CU move was telegraphed a long time ago. It’s a good day to be in the B12! (for once).

They have to know multiple regional rivalries are now highly likely after being a satellite for so long.
If/when the ACC ever starts making moves, I hope we take a shot at Louisville. My understanding is that we had a shot a few years back, but missed…they would make a great regional rival with WVU and Cincy.

Right on time, chart boy with a chart: No more losses or 1 more loss is the Pac Surviving... at least another 3-5 years. Significant loss or nuclear option to me is Pac extinction. Most likely to me is the reverse of how he has it.

Sorry if he already blocked you and you can't see this tweet. ;)

While I agree with the chart in general, the problem with this chart is it doesn't take into account the absence of a credible media deal. The attitude is "Presidents' Plan" or "1 more loss" is what's likely, but the fact that GK refuses to reveal any details about the media deal other than "it's gonna be better than the Big 12's - just give me time" makes "multiple losses" or "nuclear option" the much more likely scenario.

Louisville SUCKS. Why do so many here have a hard on for them? They are a crooked city school. They should be G5.

Why would UConn leave their historic rivals for another basketball only league? The whole point of them moving to the Big 12 would be to give their football program a stable home.
$$$$$$$$

They certainly could say no for many different reasons; they could also ask the Big 12 "hey, can we bring our crappy football program too?" Problem with that: their football program is a massive net loss for the Big 12.

BY has talked about developing more revenue from basketball; if the Big 12 can do that and maintain/strengthen it's status as the best MBB league in the country, what athletic department that relies heavily on basketball revenue would not at least consider it?

Dear CyFan posters of the future, I'm still in the past, on page 1045 and I can't reach the goddamn end of this thread. My wife and child now hate me because I have my priorities straight: reading every post in this mega thread.

Signed, Helechopper on page 1045 (almost page 1046)

Learn to read faster, CyFan with a tavern hok reading speed.

IIRC they wanted to join and B12 declined further expansion because it was all about pie pieces back then. TCU and WVU worked out and new 4 have potential but they'd have certainly been fine at any point. I think BYU or Cincy would've been fine at any of those earlier points too.

Let's consider 3 scenarios. 1) Big 12 takes AZ, WA, UO. 2) Big 12 takes AZ, AZ St, UCONN. 3. Big 12 takes AZ, UCONN, SMU?

I know it would be another TX school, and a G5 school to boot, but is there any talk that the Big 12 might quickly go with SMU, in order to further diminish the PAC options?

The above assumes the Big 12 stops at 16 teams, this year. If the PAC dissolves, which it certainly could, I think the Big 12 could fairly quickly go above 16 teams.
1. Maybe
2. Highly unlikely
3.LOL!

If I had a nickel for every time someone dismissively said “commuter school” about Louisville back when we were talking about conference adds in the dark days, well … I’d have a whole bunch of nickels.

Media partners would not be onboard; thus this would dilute each schools media income, 16 teams is tops for increased revenue. So no SMU, and hopefully no uConn. Think if oregon and Washington don't come, we stop at 14 and await further developments

I think they’ve got a solid basketball tradition and had some momentum in football when Charlie Strong was there…it’s not like adding a Duke or a UNC, but more solid schools to shore up some regional rivals would make the conference better.
