Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Maybe so. But I’d think you could at least say “we’re still working on it. This is our baseline”. Buy some more time.

The CU chancellor publicly saying “we need to see numbers” is as clear a signal as you can get that they’re not f’ing around anymore.
The last 12+ months in the PAC12 have been a master class on not how to be an effective leader and how to not have an effective communication plan.

I think he wore out the “we are working on it” approach months ago.

If there’s anything I’ve learned during realignment, things tend to happen quickly when they do. Any chatter about the remaining “haves” of the PAC 12 bolting for the Big 12 is just coming from armchair analysts (like myself). It’s not going to happen otherwise Twitter would be going nuts TONIGHT about impending decisions TOMORROW.

Frankly, adding Washington and Oregon would be good for clout but they’re going to stretch a conference that’s still punching above its weight. Colorado makes sense because they were never a West Coast school to begin with. Culturally they just make more sense in a Great Plains type of conference like the Big 12.

The Big 12 will stay put until other P5 schools come calling. I think the next additions will be schools that make sense regionally. Louisville has to be at the top of the list for additions, as well as taking a look at Pitt.

Spartan, sorry if I missed it, but have you heard anything today from your Big 10 people that they are going to do anything than other than stay at 16?

The reason I ask is because about 6 weeks ago I heard from an old business partner that knows a lot of people at Iowa and Northwestern and he has heard many of the BIG West schools are adamant about not adding anymore to the current contract. Something about with all the exclusive windows taken up by the current contract adding content would relegate more games to the BTN and streaming which of course don't have the same value.

Just wondering what you hear.
Same thing that you are that there has been essentially no serious discussions about adding additional teams at this time. The presidents seem very comfortable at 16 right now. Obv is ND wanted in they get in automatically but outside of them moving I’m not anticipating any expansion unless things get crazy with the ACC.

This has never made sense to me as ASU isn’t a good academic school
What do you mean? ASU got AAU status this spring! They gotta provide a great education

I feel like UU and ASU are hoping beyond hope that their AAU status might mean something to Big10, along with location in large metro might be attractive for Big10 carriage fees.

In the case of ASU, I believe their President is the longest serving Pac president. So he's pretty invested in Pac12 culture and willing to almost go down with ship.

I think he wore out the “we are working on it” approach months ago.
And yet this statement is basically saying that again. Nothing there except the same "we're working on a deal! It will be ready soon! We'll expand after". This could have been written 12 months ago with the exact same wording minus the Colorado bit.

This is why it’s so wild GK just kept teasing the deal along when it was obvious there was no acceptable deal and there wasn’t going to be. Did he think Colorado (among several others) would just forget and stay in the Pac without media revenue? They missed getting their pick of MWC teams at a fraction buyout as a result of their ego.
This whole thing with GK and the PAC, reminds me of that kid in grade school that kept saying he had a girlfriend...in a different town...even bringing pics....that turned out to be his cousin.

Reads like a mission statement for what they hope happens.

The first paragraph is nothing but irrelevant nonsense.

The second paragraph leads by once again doing a "the media deal is coming soon!", and makes vague promises for something that will happen after the thing that has already been delayed a dozen times.

Just a completely useless release

Super silly to hope for that as Stanford/Washington have far superior academics, markets, and brands. So if that’s what they are counting on, well good luck. I’m sure ASU is a decent school but they are known more for there super easy online programs and being a party school.

Quite the definitive release lol

TL;DR version:

GK better be ready to be “blindsided” 3 more times in the coming days. The guy is delusional and trying to speak his delusion into existence.

I'm annoyed that Colorado is coming back to the big 12. Colorado left the big 12 for the "greener pastures" of the pac-12, jumping off what they thought was a sinking ship. People were talking about Iowa State going to be left out of that first realignment and Colorado was fine watching it all fall apart.

Big 12 should have just let Colorado sink with the pac-12. Maybe they could have joined the mountain west eventually.

And apparently I'm still butthurt. Never did like that school.
