Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Put me strongly in the camp of not wanting to just add anyone and everyone. Having schools that aren't strategically aligned has always been the problem of the Big 12. Also, at this juncture there is no reason to add any more non-P5 schools unless Colorado is the only PAC to move right now and you add a school like SDSU or UConn to get to 14. Also, at the time of the next media rights negotiation if you've gotten your conference up to 18 or more teams it gets more difficult to find partners to pay enough on a per team basis.

At this point Arizona and Oregon seem like the remaining Pac schools that would be a cultural fit with the Big 12. Utah and Arizona St. would be as well, but it sure appears that their pride would get in the way of that short term and maybe long term as well. Washington doesn't feel like a fit for me, but I also don't know where they go and they are a really good program.

Hard no on Cal. Culturally, athletically, monetarily they don’t fit. They don’t want us and we don’t want them , and that’s fine.

I would be in favor of taking Oregon State and Washington State before Cal. Maybe Stanford too although their reputation would help with future TV deals potentially (even though they were one of the worst P5 FBS programs from Elway graduation to Harbaugh introduction as coach).
Why does CU fit culturally and not Cal. Would you say CU and Cal are closer than CU and ISU? And why does culture of the school matter? And would the B12 have taken USC, if so how to they match culturally?

Cal has more athletic history than ISU and most any other B12 team.

Please expand on what a monetary fit is. I have no idea.

Edit: Is BU a cultural fit to the B12 and why?

You do realize Colorado left because of the grip Texas had on the Big 12 right? Unequal revenue, moving conference offices to Dallas from KC, favorable scheduling, LHN. Texas was the root of the issues in the SWC, they were the root of the issues in the Big 12. The only thing I can thank Texas for is for keeping the Big 12 in tact in 2010 (but it was for monetary reasons, not solidarity with the rest of the Big 12).

And apparently already whined enough to get the SEC to condemn the horns down....I can't wait to read headlines of Texas souring the SEC. They are a cancer plain and simple.

Cal-Berkeley: that’s all that needs to be said. Culture and academics matter to them. It just does wrong or right. Part of the elite of the elite public institutions. Snootier than the others like UM as well.

I might be dumb here but if that’s the case add everyone. Oregon, Washington, both Arizona schools, etc. If our cut doesn’t get smaller, make us more and more secure.

Except Utah. **** Utah.
Because we don't add anyone without the networks approval as well

So a top tier educational institution isn’t right for the B12?

And so, B12 would not have taken UCLA?

Cal Berkeley is the most liberal public university in the country. Many of their faculty, students, and alumni are opposed to major college athletics. Colorado just hired Deion Sanders. Culturally when it comes to college athletics they are very, very different.

You’re good people, I’ll just give ya Nebraska, no need to give anything back lol
Why would you want to do us dirty like that? We are just trading trash to see if the other's trash is more shiny (at least for awhile).
It would actually fit the conferences better as UNL is a truckstop U and Baylor is a lawyer up after misdeeds U.

2019-2020 Cal athletics raised $36 million. Seems opposite of opposed.

CW has said this a couple times but schools like Stanford and Cal look down on the Big 12.

Brand =/= fans in stands.

That's why it was clear that the PAC 12 was screwed. Many of their potential negotiating partners were actively working to get the programs they wanted in the Big 12.
I'm sure our media partners would LOVE for us to now add Oregon, Washington, and Arizona. Get almost all the value out of the PAC at a fraction of the cost and consolidate into a clear 3rd power that they have locked up already
