Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

BOR vote happens around 2:00

The CU Board of Regents meeting starts at 4:00 pm CT. Because a vote will occur, the meeting must be public. Here is the link to the live stream: https://cu.new.swagit.com/views/92/

I do hope their network folks are scaling up their capacity for that livestream. That stream is going to get more views than the Stanford vs Washington State game.

I read last night that with the loss of UCLA and USC that Dallas is 200 miles closer to Boulder than Los Angeles. And Deion really wants to recruit Texas.

anyone seen any of the proposed financials if CU does join?
In the Big 12, Colorado will receive $31.7 million annually in media rights revenue (not including other league revenue from College Football Playoff, etc.) once the Big 12’s new six-year, $2.3 billion Grant of Rights deal with ESPN and FOX begins in 2025, sources said. That’s the same amount each Big 12 member will receive.

In 2024, Colorado also will receive a full Big 12 revenue share, including media rights and other league revenue, estimated to be about $42 million, a source said.

That said, I think it’s one thing at a time here. Colorado still has to make it official first. Plus there are the rumors Scheer heard about a non-four corner school from the PAC-12.

I just think there’s too much fluidity right now to understand what’s legitimate vs what’s not. People said dominos would fall fast, but I have a hard time seeing 4 or 5 PAC-12 teams coming to the Big 12 in quick succession.
Honestly, I think I’m revisiting my initial thoughts on this. There are some major logistical hurdles that the PAC-12 would have to overcome to survive this round. I’m not sure if there is a viable path forward through the remnants.

For example:

I think the B12 would take Cal and/or Stanford in a heartbeat.
I kind of agree. But I would want BY to vet their strategic view of athletics going forward. We want schools that are going to drive growth and visibility for the Big12 Conference. I would hope this round of realignment has been a eye opener for some schools, that they can't be a coattail hanger on. Have to invest or not be in P2/3/4. Nothing wrong if athletics isn't a priority for schools like Cal or Stanford.

My only other concern is California state politics. They will always strive to be leading edge on topics like employee status. They are already exploring legislation to require Athletic Departments share revenue with athletes. As much as the NCAA talks Congressional legislation- I am skeptical. So not sure I want California dictating Big12 athletic governance. They might be worse than the Texas Longhorns.

You’re good people, I’ll just give ya Nebraska, no need to give anything back lol
Sorry doesn’t work that way. At one time Noledge U was our problem. You folks thought you could help us out. Not our problem that you did not read the fine print. Now if you expect us to help you with your problem it is going to cost something.

I might be dumb here but if that’s the case add everyone. Oregon, Washington, both Arizona schools, etc. If our cut doesn’t get smaller, make us more and more secure.

Except Utah. **** Utah.
I would imagine it does divide up the spoils of bowls, the playoffs and the NCAA tournament more, but the stability is worth adding some at least.

What do ppl think Cal brings? Great academics but essentially a poor man's northwestern. Nothing on the field, arrogant, apathetic fan base. Seems like a horrible cultural fit. They seem like the poster children for how much the PAC doesn't care about sports.

I mean, if Cal and/or Stanford actually wanted into the Big 12, we’d be fools not to take them. But it’s a nonstarter because we already know they’re not interested. First the Big 12 simply doesn’t have the academic profile. Second, they’d have to drop their discrimination against religious-affiliated universities, because Baylor (unfortunately), TCU, and BYU aren’t going anywhere - and if it wasn’t for that discrimination BYU would have been in the PAC decades ago.

I guess when we talk Big 12 expansion, we exclude Stanford and Cal because we already know they’re not coming, even if the move is in their best interest. They’re the types to cut off their nose just to spite their face.

For example:

it is literally an outward display of privilege on their part. they are assuming that rich daddy is gonna swoop in and prevent all their **** from getting taken by the repo man.

they are so ****** here and just oblivious to how ****** they are. maybe they think some state governments will step up and save them. or rich donors. regardless, they will ignore it.

I know he takes a deserved beating on here, but on Sunday or Monday Swaim tweeted the big Colorado donors were pressuring the Buffs administration to make the jump. And now several others are reporting that played a big role. Even a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while I guess.

It’s all about the delivery with Swaim. The way he pumps his YouTube and social clouds the way people take him. Back in the old days I always paid attention to what the seemingly “crazy nobodies” would say. People don’t pay attention to them, but they listen. Same reason I don’t discount posters that fire off “ITK” stuff. You just never know who they know.

I forgot where it was, but I think there was a Podcast not that long ago where Pollard said that the topic of rebranding the conference with a different name, they approached the new schools about their opinion on it. The new schools said to keep it because the brand was part of the allure of coming. I don't think the Big 12 name is going anywhere.

Need to get in to 12 separate states then it makes sense again.

Iowa
Ohio
WV
FL
Texas
Colorado
Utah
Kansas
Oklahoma

-AZ
-oregon
-Washington

DONE (might be missing some current states I’m popping off right now)
