Most of this has nothing to do with what I am talking about with Disney. They have been around for a long time and been very successful with ups and downs like many other big companies. Just because they may joy have the arrow going up up up doesn’t mean they are going to just go away. ESPN is the same thing. It’s like a $55B business or something like that.Your showings your youth. Only 52 US Companies Have Been on the Fortune 500 Since 1955, Thanks to the Creative Destruction That Fuels Economic Prosperity
What do the companies in these three groups have in common? Group A: American Motors, Brown Shoe, Studebaker, Collins Radio, Detroit Steel, Zenith Electronics and National Sugar Refining. Group B: Boeing, Campbell Soup Company, Colgate-Palmolive, Deere & Company, General Motors, IBM, Kellogg...www.aei.org
The rumor was the deal was so bad the board said they weren't taking the offer back to their respective schools and told GK to go back to the negotiation table.I am disappoint that whatever first pass tv deal presented to the bigwigs friday didnt leak yet, as predicted by Keeler.
Since streaming is directly tied to actual fan support/interest (not media market size), how is the transition to streaming going improve the Pac's position relative to the other P5 conferences? Fan engagement in the Pac is by far the worst of all the conferences and the only one that has declined significantly in the past 5 years.Listened to an Arizona Wildcats podcast. It wasn't Sheer. Those guys want to go to the Big 12, but their sources are saying the Pac will get a good enough deal to keep everybody together, including Colorado.
They had on Patrick Crapes, who has been on 365 Sports, the Baylor station. Always interested to hear the same guys speak on another conference and if they say the same stuff. He would advise the Pac to stay together and get a short deal as the CFP will be a game changer and streaming will be more prevalent in 4-5 years.
If I had to guess, MWC is going to lock them in a very long GOR anyways after their botched attempt to extend the deadline of their notice of withdrawal. We’re don’t want SDSU anyways, there are going to be better schools available in the next few years.Sounds like Oregon and Stanford are against expansion with San Diego State and SMU. Pac is just blowing smoke saying media rights, GOR, then expansion. Once Pac schools see the hard numbers that they will be receiving less expanding to those teams, the pro expansion Pac schools will sing a different tune.
From looking on the San Diego State forum, you would think they would be agreeable now about a Big 12 invite. Nope. Most are still bashing the Big 12. Travel is one of the concerns but most of the reasons are misfit toys, will break up in 6 years, academics lousy, no fit. About travel, didn't these guys apply to the Big East years ago?
That's fine with me, the big 12 would be dumb to be adding SDSU anyway
Seems like I remember him backing such a move, but drawing a blank about specifically where/when I saw/heard it. (He probably referenced multiple times)Still don’t understand why Chris was so gung ho about SDSU. They’re way down the list.
And UCONN and Gonzaga. Hopefully the B12 ADs and Presidents stand firm on that. That's fine with me, the big 12 would be dumb to be adding SDSU anyway
Lol. Kliavkoff isn’t that smart.A San Diego State fan posted something that may be true. The Pac strung along San Diego State where San Diego State thought they were all locked up. Their fans, coaches, and administration were all gung ho for the Pac and denied and trashed the Big 12. This is what the Pac wanted as they didn't want the Big 12 to get a foothold in their backyard. Then, as we just saw, the Pac pulled the rug out when San Diego State was up on their deadline. San Diego State had to go back to the Mountain West without pursuing the Big 12 where they may have had a chance.
Yes, there’s a point of no return, but it’s hard to say when that is. A&M and Mizzou both announced their move less than a year before they officially joined the SEC. Same for TCU and WV. Most of the rest have all been 2+ years out, especially the last couple of moves. So an off-tangent thought from the "normal" realignment talk.
Could there a point of no return date that the current PAC 12 members reach where it becomes operationally unfeasible to join a different conference? If GK keeps stringing this media rights deal along into the fall he might be doing so to make it nearly impossible for a school like Colorado to decide they want to join the Big 12.
I'm not saying this could happen, but it's not anything I've heard anyone talk about.
It's been talked about but not a deadline in the near term. But it is making the Pac schools harder to plan a budget for 2024. But Pac could plan for a low end budget and if they get a Big 12 invite in Spring 2024 hypothetically for more money, then they are ahead. Spring would make it much harder, near impossible, to plan schedules. I expect a Pac deal before football season. So an off-tangent thought from the "normal" realignment talk.

There might be some truth to that being GK's strategy. However, the reality is the delay is likely due to getting a satisfactory contract. So an off-tangent thought from the "normal" realignment talk.

We were able to quickly string together a schedule on short notice for the Covid year. They could do it with new/late additions. So an off-tangent thought from the "normal" realignment talk.
