Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

So this would imply there is a deal, right? Otherwise he would have said we will talk about it when it's ready.

The fact that there is likely a deal and they aren't talking about it means they don't want to answer questions about the story/spin they'll put out about it.

At some point in the next 12 months, they'll have to choose one of the following options:
  1. Sign onto whatever media deal the PAC manages to finally put together and the GOR that runs the length of the new deal.
  2. Jump to the B12 and sign into their GOR through 2031.
  3. Stay in the PAC even though the conference doesn't have a media deal.
  4. Go independent.
No matter how much WAOR think they're going to end up in the B10, there's nothing else they can do to make it happen. It's entirely up to the B10, who could have added either at any point in the past year plus.
I honestly think that OU/WA GOR talking point has run it's course.

Signing a 5 year GOR only really locks them in for 3 as buyouts can always be negotiated early.

If the B1G is going to invite new members, it will be towards the end of their new deal, not in the first season of it. Those two schools just need to figure out how they want to buy time until then.

I understand now why they don't let George Klivakoff talk to the media.
Yeah, he could have said the same thing but without the "I know something you don't know" part of it. Just say we are focusing on football today and when we are ready to talk about media deals we will, just not today.

i get that there is no reason to sign a deal right now because the deal is as bad as it can be and waiting might improve the deal. but eventually YOU HAVE TO SIGN A DEAL and we are very much approaching that time.

George is married right? Dude this guy would be a champion hooking up with other women yet keeping his wife around despite all the evidence she has. Gotta hand it to this guy, he is a master BS'er.

Are we though? I understood the end of June deadline with the SDSU buyout situation, but that cluster **** has come and gone. At this point what is the impetus? The Big XII doesn't seem like it's about to make any moves soon, so I doubt there is much pressure on the 4 corners from that angle. What's going to make them move now? Clearly all of the schools want to stay in the PAC if possible. I could see this going on for months longer. When is the actual contractual deadline, next summer?

I actually think the number gets to be around the Big 12 or dare I say better (before pulling out the production costs, which will SURELY be glossed over when the PAC crowd reports on it) because GK is just going to extend this out so long, somebody is going to be like, 'F if shut up George, here's $32M per team so you are in front of the Big 12. Enjoy five years of clinging on because next round you are completely hosed."

Just going to annoy people to death. Bold strategy.

The longer we sit here without a deal the better deal we're going to get! Nobody wants us but we somehow have leverage. Makes total sense if you don't think about it lol

For real. Every day that passes with no deal gives more leverage to the networks.

The PAC has a deadline (end of current deal) and NEEDS a deal to happen. The networks don't. Not really sure how anyone could buy the line of thinking that networks will magically pay more money later on out of the goodness of their hearts...

I know everything is about the present, but I'm really intrigued by what the next round of media deals will be like.

Sports is the only remaining content where people watch through commercial breaks - thus the big media deals. But sports are also declining in some ways and in some areas. Will advertisers pay the same or higher for fewer eyeballs because it's still the only option, or will they scale back? At some point it's going to hit the limits of the ROI. That to me is when you see the next big round of realignment.

Perhaps then it's about conference contraction rather than expansion.

Or probably more likely, a whole new entity made up of only the most watched teams.
