2023-24 Big 12 opponents

I'd certainly be ok with that.
Maybe ISU will get to beat them in front of a Hilton South crowd in the Big 12 Tourney.
Problem with that is Longhorn fans don't travel well to Big12 Tourney. Just 20 old rich white guys who all wear the same outfit. ;)

It’s still likely 11 Q1 conference games
NCAA didn’t give the round robin schedule its due last year at selection time. I think they said they looked at winning percentage or opportunities of Q1 games instead of how tough the Big 12 was night in and night out. Had to help out the ACC cause there just weren’t any good teams besides the top few. Minimized Oklahoma’s win over Alabama.

Yeah I was just mentioning we’ll have opportunities but you’re right in that we have to capitalize on em

I don’t think we will have a problem getting to 20 wins this year but Iowa got in last year with 19.. We will still play at least 10 Q1 games in the conference this year.

We won exactly 20 last year (Christmas break game got axed). I would conservatively expect a record right around there again.

Non-Con: 11-2 (8-0 bye games, 2-1 @ Wide World of Sports, 1-1 @Depaul, vs Iowa)
Big 12: 9-9
Big 12 Tourney: ???

no surprise but many are overreacting here, IMHO.

our schedule will be just fine for tournament chances/seeding.

unbalanced schedules are here to stay, and who cares about regular season titles anyway?

its ok if conferences have bad teams - that's how you get a lot of teams in the tourney from a conference. you need someone to absorb all the losses, that's what happened in the big east way back when they got a ton of teams in.

this is just one year with 14 teams. I'm sure we'll play KU home-home next year when the b12 is back to 12 teams.

Not going to Lawrence is ******* dumb.
This thinking is just weird to me as a life-long Iowa State fan. Yeah we like to play the best, but I'd rather have a competitive chance at a win by playing somebody else than a 95% certain loss at Kansas.

I get that people want every game to be like the Super Bowl, but there are just as many losses to go around as there are wins. At some point a school like Iowa State needs something less than a Top 5 hardest schedule.

Odd that the KSU rivalry is maintained with home and home, but KU is not. Anything but a round-robin sucks by comparison.

I’m a traditionalist. 100+ years.

I felt no different when Missouri left for the SEC, as an example.

Yeah, I completely understand that. I feel the same in terms of who we play. It feels weird to lose OU/TX and instead have trips to places like Utah and Florida.

BUT, I think the overall even-level competitiveness (resources and competition) of the conference is going to be awesome going forward. We all seem like peers that want to be frenemies.

Yeah, and even then they’re like assistant coaches.
