If Dekkers has to sit, how does our offense change based upon the strengths of the other QBs? I have read on this board about Dekkers arm with sufficient athleticism but I don‘t have a feel for the rest of the room.

Do we do more RPO with one guy over another? (Presuming Nate adjusts the offense slightly to match the talent on the field).

Rocco would have more of the playbook to work with than kohl since he’s been here more. Kohl would be a better passer, Rocco more RPO guy. No idea of the new guy.

New guy is like Joel Lanning. He might even play this year on short yardage packages anyway

Scheme is Campbells. So should be similar. Just a different guy in charge so different calls and variations.

Dekkers is the clear starter if he's able to, that we won't know for a bit.

Rocco is a bit more of a run-pass-option guy. He can spread the field and extend plays more than Dekkers but doesn't have quite the arm strength of Kohl. He has probably the least amount of poise between Dekkers, Kohl, and himself, but still pretty good.

Kohl is impressing the hell out of everybody with how quickly he's picking things up and looking competitive. He's more of a pass-first guy with similar, somewhat limited mobility, to Dekkers. Guy is the future of the position, it's just a matter of timing.

Hughes is thought highly of because he has a ton of experience and can extend plays with a below par OL. He's more mobile than even Rocco but doesn't have quite the arm of either Dekkers or Kohl. He's picking things up pretty quickly and may play a lot more than many expect.

Because of some of the limitations of our offensive talent, I believe the order of starters right now would be Dekkers, Rocco, Hughes, Kohl. Depending on how camp goes, Hughes could jump Rocco just from an experience standpoint, though less high of a ceiling. Kohl is the "best" of them all in terms of ceiling, but he's a true freshman and it's going to be hard to start somebody in that position with a weak OL, even if better than last year.

I was talking about this with the gf (who knows zero about sports) and was bemoaning having to possibly play a freshman or a guys with little experience. She reminded me Brock came out of nowhere as a freshman with like 2 months of practice, and he turned out OK. So you never know.

I can't speak to either Rocco or Kohl, but in either event, I would expect an even heavier dose of the run game. Hopefully Mr Clanton and his guys are up to the task. If they are, that will make life a LOT easier for whoever is back there throwing it.

If this is close to accurate it doesn't sound good IMO.

Why? It shows we have options of varying style and experience. It's by far the best QB room we've ever had. The starter will likely be determined by how well the OL is playing and how much time they have to make the necessary reads. The only downside is that neither Rocco or Kohl have the starting experience but that happens with any QB change. Hughes provides somebody with a ton of experience.

I'm excited..the closer we get, the more optimistic I feel. Honestly, having Hughes as a guy that can come in for short yardage, specific designed plays, etc could really take some of the pressure off of Dekkers/Rocco. It worked pretty well for us in 2017.

Who says we can't block? Certainly was pretty bad last year, but this is a new year, new O-Line coach and new OC. Seems like we have decent atheltes and size at the OL, no reason a new coach can't teach better technique.

It's without a doubt a talented room. I think Rocco is probably the guy this year and maybe next which I'm excited to see what the can do. He can extend plays with his feet better than Dekkers and has a pretty good arm as well. I think some of the people that are expecting Kohl to start right away probably need to lower their expectations. He has a lot of physical tools but probably needs to sit a year or two before he's ready for the big 12.

Just me but I don't really care about the QB room. Only one guy can play at a time. I'd rather have one 1 dollar player than 4 quarters.

For the record I live in Ankeny and saw Kohl play both basketball and football several times so I have to admit a massive amount of bias toward him and I hope he has a ton of success. But I think he's a guy you want starting after a redshirt year or as a sophomore, not right away.
