***2023 Tennis Thread***

Sinner can not win any of the big points. Fowler just said Djokovic has only won 5 more total points but is in a commanding lead. I expect Djokovic to win this final set in a tiebreak 7-3.

2nd semi is the main course of the day complete pick'em. I'll take Medvedev in 4
Yep these young guys are mentally weak. 0-6 on break points for Sinner. Even got the early mini break in the tiebreak and gave it right back. Djokovic wondering why he is not as liked (not that he cares anymore), I give you the last few games of the match and then his wave to the crowd. Will be great when he retires because nobody is beating him. I respect the hell out of his talent, but he and his family annoy me to no end.

That's why when @isutrevman said sinner was most likely to beat him i didn't agree though in racquet talent he might be most equipped. Sinner loses a ton of close matches to guys not named Djokovic. Djokovic is best of all time with scoreboard pressure it was a mental mismatch. Luckily I think other 2 contenders still left are probably 2 of the more mentally strong players on the tour could throw in Casper with them too. Whoever wins I'm with you I'll be in their corner on Sunday

I thought Alcaraz would win but did not see 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 coming. Let's hope for no cramps on Sunday.
Agreed that was a demolition. Did not see that coming. Hopefully no cramping this time from Carlos and he can play free and pull this thing off. For the love of God can we at least get a great 5-setter if Novak does win? Men's slam finals have been so boring lately (again not Novak's fault that everyone else can't hang with him). I always want my favorite players to win, but in the end I am a tennis fan, and I just want great matches. As great as it was for me seeing Federer win like he did before Nadal showed up, truthfully I remember being bored and longing for great matches. Once Nadal got into the fold it made many more of those finals way more intriguing because you knew the A-game was needed for these guys to beat each other. Then when Novak got added, we had like a 3-year window where it was absolutely perfect (toss in Murray too) where if you were going to win one of these slams, you were going to have to earn it.

Underwhelming day but I think Men's final is probably best thing that could of happened for sport hopefully we get a classic
Yeah this was a let down across the board. We'll see how the finals go. I think it's still Novak in straights with a couple of sets being won via tiebreaker. The man's secret at Wimbledon especially is he does NOT lose tiebreakers.

Djokovic and Alcaraz seem so far ahead of everyone now, whith Djokovic another level above Alcaraz, especially on grass. If Alcaraz hadn't cramped at the French, I think that one goes the distance, but it is what it is.

Medvedev has a huge Carlos Alcaraz problem. He destroyed him at Indian Wells and was beaten pretty soundly today.

Odds to win I'm going Djokovic 75%, Alcaraz 25%. Djokovic is just too freaking solid. Wont be pushed 12 feet off the baseline like Medvedev.

I agree I think Alcaraz at least keeps it entertaining Djokovic 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, 6-2

Woof Jabeur that was a hideous performance. It’s officially become a mental issue at this point in these slam finals. Gets a break of serve and gives it right back all day. She gets very tentative on shots when she gets a lead. Full credit to Vondrousova for mentally being able to keep in it after getting broken early in both sets.

Oh look another yawn fest of a final. Men’s tennis is legit boring right now. Djokovic is going to approach 30 slams unless someone with a mentality like Nadal shows up. These guys are mental *******.

Terrible year for the next generation. Djokovic will win calendar slam for sure. It's sad that nobody seems to be taking the next step. His biggest challenge next year might still be a healthy Nadal.

Alcaraz is playing better now but seems like when he can take the lead he loses focus and hits some ridiculous dropper or overhits early in the rally. If he doesn't win this set something like 6-3 it's tough to see him winning a tight set

Yep agreed. Sad that an old and injured Nadal is the best chance, just like an old Federer (double match point at 2019 Wimbledon) was the only challenge. Just sad nobody can step up to the plate.

What do you want? It takes time. Some of these guys are barely out of teenage years.

It simply takes time for the new players to gain that needed experience to get over that hump.

Alcaraz plays like he has no plan or is not following the plan, also is impatient. If Novak starts serving like he has previous matches then this will be done fast.

I think the field is just really weak right now. I think Alcaraz is a phenomenal talent but that's about it. Fact that Casper Rudd has played in 3 grand slam finals in past year tells me alot. He's a competitor at least but 7-8 years ago he wouldn't be top 10. Throw in kygrios making final last year who's basically a part time tennis player. Some of these guys have had years and years to get over the hump. This isn't a complaint against carlos but more of the rest

He's overhitting or pressing a ton today but I get it. 20 year old in a final he's jacked.
