Maybe not for current members of the team who have no choice but to go along with the "schedule." But speaking for future recruits: I can only speak for myself, so for athletes like me, absolutely. If I was a west coast guy then I grew up in the west coast and here is an opportunity to travel to Ann Arbor, Columbus, New York City, and places I've never been to? You bet that would absolutely get me excited.Would you feel that same way if you were a West coast guy, and ran for USC? And now you must endure routinely longer fights to the Midwest, and beyond, in order to run your sport.
To be flat out honest, I was recruited by Iowa State, Minnesota and Missouri. Me and my parents- as part of the deciding factor pros & cons- Looked at where the track meets were going to be held and the travel experience I got with each. Iowa State was already a pretty heavy favorite so travel didnt "decide" it for me, but it certainly didnt turn me off. Their schedule of where I was going to run at was more appealing to me because it was to places I had never been to before so it excited me. So for me, and for other recruits who are like me, travel was a recruiting advantage. That's all I am saying.
