Question: If GMAC were to be fired after this year...

.....would the expectations of the "new" coach be to go to the NCAA tournament in 2010? What if the "new" coach didn't win in 2010? Would people be calling for his head after year 1?

I believe that if GMAC would be let go now that the state of ISU men's basketball would be far worse than it is now. I also believe that we have to weather this storm that we are currently in. Brighter skys are ahead.

I read a lot of posts on this site but rarely post myself. I am just looking for honest opinions.

Thanks.

If GMac were fired after this year we wouldn't be able to get any kind of decent coach in here what-so-ever. That would be three premature firings in a row, not exactly a stable situation to come into as a new coach!

Ground zero...Absolute devestation.

What this program needs is stability to make progress. Johnny Orr offered a lot of that, but it's gradually eroded ever since then.

Greg's our best hope for that, but he needs more time and more wins...

Also, IMHO, Brackins, HB, and possiby Dykstra would all be gone.

I'm pretty sure that he will be given at least through 2010 to show what he can do. Pollard has been giving him time to correct what he feels were problems under the old system. I also think Pollard knows that it would be a very tough hire to replace him if he were to pull the trigger now. I think he is basically looking at this being his first season with his players. He will be given some time to see if they can come together with the recruited talent now in place. If the young players don't develop and show improvement it will be tough to came him after teh 2010 season.

I agree...why would any coach worth a salt want to come to Ames and get fired after 3 years!!!

Boys well young ladies too...Just let Greg Mac stay another four years and see where the program goes ...Its either gonna be up or its gonna stay down, either way we will have at least given greg mac a chance to prove himself to be an astute coach....

Yes a Premature Firing hurts any school, a firing after 7 years has never hurt one school that I know of....Then again I dont know everything basketball related!!!!

it would be the dumbest move by Pollard yet...absolutely no stability to the program, we would probably have to go after an asst. coach somewhere

I know that we could be without a win, but right now we are sitting on 1 conference win and not a whole lot of hope of more than 2 wins. So how could things get worse?

Brackins, DG leave, Colvin wants out of his commitment, Dykstra and slaten open up recruitment. Think past this year.

Have you ever heard of the following...coaches...Glen Anderson..Ken Trickey... Lynn Nance??

Greg Mac is better than all of these guys...Just be patience and give Greg another four years!!!!

Obviously McD is not going to be fired after this year and although I'm not a big McD fan, I agree that if he is, ISU would be in horrible shape for many years to come. So far McD has proven to be an average recruiter and hopefully he can at least provide some stability to the program, which he hasn't yet. Do I think he will be successful next year, sadly no. I can't wait to hear what the excuse for it will be from Pollard, McD and his "true" fans.

The FIRE THE COACH mentality has ruined the college sports world. If Mac were fired I'd probably completely give up on our MBB program.

I don't think this team will go to the NCAA's in 2010. Next year is the year it needs to happen or else I'm afraid it will be... I dunno.

He needs the next 2 seasons to prove himself. When these guys start winning games next year and the year after, all the haters that post every day will see that patience will bring success back.
