Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

If SDSU isn't going to the Pac, it would tend to suggest no one's leaving the Pac, wouldn't it?
I think it's more of they REALLY wanted to make the move but don't have a seat and couldn't afford to leave the MWC without a guarantee of a landing spot.

It's kinda like my wife probably REALLY wanted a hot, skinny, tall, latin guy with hair... but realized she needed to settle with what she had.

That's what I would read into it under normal circumstances, but at this point I think trying to read logic into any of what's been going on is a complete crapshoot. There is virtually no outcome of this situation that would completely surprise me, because I have NO idea what to expect at this point!

The PAC had to be telling them they would have a deal done and invite by 6/30. That’s the only explanation for SDSU’s actions.

So the PAC is blowing smoke up MWC school’s asses in addition to their own members. My question is, who’s the other school? SDSU wouldn’t be coming alone.

It tells me SDSU might feel the Pac isn't a step up from the MWC. They know what their TV deal is in the MWC, do they know what their media deal will in in Pac? Being the new guy, I am sure any money shortcomings in the Pac media deal will be taken out of SDSU and SMU's money.

I can't imagine the PAC wasn't having discussions with them thinking it was a Plan B, with Plan A being the league sticks together.

I know they don't have the fan interest necessary to be in a big league, but UNLV makes a lot of sense in the PAC 12 if they wanted to incorporate Las Vegas and gambling more.

They’re going to be in big trouble even if they stick together and don’t expand. Even Wilner and Clownzano are saying that.

Agree. At this point they are stuck in a distant 5th place as a conference (SEC, B1G, Big 12, ACC, PAC12). We're well placed to be the best of the not elite conferences and that comes with a lot of security (relative to the past decade).

It’s clear that these schools are emotionally attached to what is left of the Pac. At this point, wish them well and move on. If they come calling again it has to be at a reduced share basis.

It might also mean they aren't leaving for the 2024 season. If the Pac gets a TV deal and survives, SDSU could send the same letter next summer and join Pac in 2025.

One year isn't a big deal, especially if it's going to cost SDSU an extra $17M.

The Big 12 would still take CO/AZ. Just because message board posters are getting annoyed doesn't mean they would do anything rash. The presidents of those universities still have a fiduciary duty and that includes finding out the Pac numbers before doing anything.

This could also be, but I'm more so looking at it that if on a continuum, teams leaving the Pac is probably less likely than it was yesterday.
