People have no shame
I use gate assistance between planes when I travel. Generally the time to get from one gate to another is very brief. I have severe scoliosis in my lumbar spine, and it is difficult for me to walk fast, or to walk long distance. Put the two together and I'm toast, so I opt for the wheel chair even though I can in fact walk. However, when I get home to the Des Moines airport, or to an airport where I won't be standing in a long customs line, I go ahead and walk because I can take my time and make brief stops along the way.

I'm certain there are people who abuse the gate assistance; I know I've received glares when I stand up out of the chair and walk onto the plane. Just let me say that things are not always what they seem to be.

I'm flying to Atlanta next Friday. I paid the extra $50 each way to get a seat in the emergency exit row so I would have some legroom.
I show up early and check in at the desk for every flight so I can ask if they have anything in an exit row; many times no one pays extra and I get extra room for free. I'm 6-4, and cheap.

Before kids I did the same thing, I would do that or I was pay the sometimes 50 dollars for first class(usually on american) If first class seats are available you can often buy them cheaply.

Years ago they would automatically just move me to an exit row on check in. I don't fly enough to know if they would even do that. One of the last times I flew overseas I paid extra and they still moved me back. I was pissed, then another flight attendant came and moved me up. Told me he had no idea why she insisted I move when there were open seats.

You can let the shorter people in front of you and switch seats. That is an option, but you seem to appear to be fine being a ****. It works both ways. Seems that concert people know when they buy seats that there could be a person taller than them infront of them. Just like when people buy seats on an airplane, you may get someone who reclines their seat.

Btw, I almost never recline because I can’t sleep on planes and will generally work. If people recline in front of me I just adjust and move on.
If you are 6-4 or taller, there is no adjustment to be made during the entire flight other than standing up.

The last few times I've flown, the exit row has been filled with tiny frail 90 year olds that must've paid extra. Nothing says "we don't really give a **** about you" than letting great-grandparents that needed assistance boarding the damn plane be responsible for getting the exit open during an emergency.......apparently the airline is absolved from responsibility as long as the person says "yes" out loud when asked if they are willing to help.

If you have the aisle seat, you can flip up the arm rest and put your legs into the aisle some. Most flights I have been on always have the emergency exit rows, which have more leg room, some of the last to fill. Those would provide more room also for somewhere around 25-30 dollars more.

You recliners are scum of the earth, might be one of the most selfish things you can do. I do not feel bad if my kids screw with the back seat of someone who reclines.

Safe in premium seating. Lots of room. Pay the extra money if a standard seat does not fit you. Airlines generally seat economy purchasers of families with kids at the back of the plane. Close to the bathroom. Economy section. Plus they require extra time to get everything together and therefore consider others that can exit quickly.

The drunk driving guy has annoying kids? This blows my mind.
Ever flown with children? We didn’t buy iPads and headphones for our kids like every parent that wants their kid to sit there and shut up. They are good kids but like most 5 and 7 year olds they are very active and some people can see that as not annoying.

Well if I buy 4 premium seats for all flights then it nearly doubles the cost to fly, seems easier to expect humans to be decent right?

Well if you don't have the decency to ask to recline then I don't have the decency to tell my kids to stop annoying you. Its a pretty even trade.

They do not need to get your permission. Just recline a little and slowly come to position. Seat at bottom is anchored. The upper portion pivots. So the knees hitting back of seat is because you are too large. You sound like a model parent. Great role model.

So if your kid kicks seats or bangs into them, its just kids and you are being decent, but if someone reclines the seat, they aren't being decent? Seems like there is a disconnect here.

You’re part of the problem…I’m 6’5, I guess I should focus on my own comfort and leave my kids with my wife while I sit up front in comfort.

On an airplane where it's generally expected for like the entire group of people on it?
