F1 2023 Discussion

Not much going on in that one today. I thought we were going to see an epic Ferrari strategy failure but it ended up working out for them.

Silver lining is the RB gap wasn't 25+ seconds today.

Only thing I got
Out of today was Checo is going to get fired if he don’t figure it out. He has the best car besides Max and still struggles to make the podium if at all.

He is squarely putting himself in trouble of getting replaced.
it's borderline shocking at this point. although the other teams seem to be inching closer week by week, the red bull is still far and away the best car and Perez has had a consistent string of qualifying mistakes and pedestrian races.

Wonder if Red Bull would go young new guy or a driver like Danny, possibly even Ocon. To bad Lando is locked in his contract so long

He’s still second in the drivers standings and if I recall he brings a lot of financial backing with him.

They have to have some serious PTSD from the last time they looked for a partner for max so I think that buys him time. But if someone like Lando makes sense financially….can you really turn that down?

Lando is a good fit because he needs to be driving a car that can win.

RB wants no part of a two driver team, they have run every second driver out since their insertion.

They Horner isn’t bringing Norris in to actually compete with Max. Not happening.

They will either find another Checo type, or go Uber young and burn through them. Yuki maybe if he can’t get some results through the rest of they year.

Also Danny Ric is washed and I can’t figure out why anyone thinks he deserves another shot?

Left RB, where he could have at least got wins and played a part in championships, to go to Renault only to leave for Mclaren to get toasted by Lando. Dudes washed. If he wanted to be in F1 he could have, but he isn’t getting another big team drive.

I couldn’t believe he left RB and then completely didn’t understand the move to Mclaren.

Sorry for the Ric rant.

At this point Danny Ric is like the back-up car on one of the old Top Gear/Current Grand Tour road trips. He's just there to scare Checo but not to actually get used.

It’s pretty obvious Ricciardo needed to feel like “the guy” and Christian and the whole Red Bull team clearly favored Max. He’s someone who wanted to be the star even if it meant going to a lesser team. I also think he severely overestimated how much his skill as a driver could elevate the Renault. Now he’s pretty chastened, some could say broken, but as with everything in F1 the skill of the driver can’t do anything if the car is in a whole other tier. If they replaced Perez with him, I have no doubt Danny would run basically level or even better than Sergio’s current results, simply because of how good the car is (and I am 100% not a fan of RB so it pains me to say that, but reality is reality).

2022 Norris 122 points - Danny Ric 37 points
2021 Norris 160 points - Danny Ric 115 points

Let's not forget Norris gave a win away by not getting rain tires in Russia, and Danny lucked into a win in Monza, when Norris was clearly faster, but he played good teammate to hold Hamilton back in 2021 so that gap should have been wider.

That doesn't scream can complete with Perez in equal equipment to me. I suppose McLaren might have favored Norris more than Danny, but that was because he showed his pace advantage. Perez doesn't look as strong because RB favor Max to the extreme of anyone on the grid getting favored, and Max likes a car that is pretty much only drivable by him and Hamilton.

People care about Ric because of Drive to Survive. That's it.

Lots of rumors and I have read a few articles of Checo getting replaced by Alex Palou which would be a fun twist to see how an Indy driver would do in F1. I doubt it happens but I would not be shocked to see Palou driving in F1 next season

That is an interesting rumor with Palou under contract to move to McLaren next year. I assumed his attraction to them was a possible F1 chance, I see Zach Brown floating that. Makes you wonder if it isn't Norris on the move to RB and Palou would move to fill his seat.

Silly season is silly.
