Here we go middle-aged dads, everything we've been waiting for.... the first original 2D Mario platformer in over a decade (ignoring all the "New" re-releases).

I grew up with Mario and to this day absolutely love it. The 3D variations were good, and Odyssey was next level, but nothing beats the 2D OG. I've never gotten into console gaming outside the Mario universe (except for Minecraft) as I don't like shooter games, RPGs, etc so this is like AMAZING.

Can't wait to play this.

The Super Mario RPG remake wins that Direct for me though, I still have my SNES cart but will absolutely buy the remake

My 4 and 6 year old are into Mario hard right now. Between the movie and a couple games on switch it is all they talk about. Can’t wait to show them this trailer!

Nintendo is high as ******* balls making this game. I'm still gonna play the hell out of it anyway.

This looks AMAZING! I'm so excited for this and will be there day one (even though it's the same day as Spider-Man 2, which I will also be playing). It does feel like some kind of weird 2D Mario fever dream, especially when he turns into an elephant, but that is usually when Nintendo is at their best. It feels like it has elements of SMB3, Super Mario World, and Yoshi's Island, which are obviously the gold standards. Co-op being included is kind of a bummer for me personally (The wife and I are child-free and it usually puts a bit of a ceiling on how difficult they can make the game), but I am happy it's included for families that want to make new memories with the series. Awesome that it's dropping the weekend of the ISU bye too, so I'll have something to do while begrudgingly watching the Big 12 slate that day.

I bought a Switch at the start of summer with my summer job money and beat BOTW and Luigi's Mansion 3 so far. This one looks great and something my kids will be able to enjoy too.
