Just hide in the corner for safety

Haven't had a measurable rain in my area since the first week of May. Lawn is brown, and crops will be done for in about 2-3 weeks if it doesn't rain. Gravel and light spots are already burning up.

I am hoping the rain this weekend comes to fruition. I live in Ankeny and went to screw in an anchor that is about a foot long (that had a small auger tip (about 2in diameter) for a swingset anchor and had to work really hard with a long screwdriver for a twist handle just to get them to screw in. I had to apply a ton of down pressure when turning to get it to go otherwise it just spun on the hard dirt. About 6in down it was a hard pan like a rock and then finally broke through. With the heat, we really need some moisture.
Ankeny must not have gotten the 1/2 inch most of the metro got last Saturday night? I was fishing up there Tuesday night and it's extremely dry and the ponds are stagnant.

Is that even considered hail, or is it a case where the hail was so heavy that multiple hailstones froze together?

I thought hail was related to updrafts. Basically, the updraft keeps pushing the hail up to get more layers of water frozen to it, so it becomes mostly spherical. But if you have incredibly heavy hail, you can get multiple hailstones freezing together as they fall.

I may be completely wrong, though.

Can confirm via some of the chaser I watched and some of the structure pictures I’ve seen the updrafts were insane with these storms.
