EA Sports NCAA College FB coming back Summer '24

I’d love to know the total they end up paying for all school brands and players vs the licensing deal for nfl and players association.

The financials are not my area but I work with movie licenses. Some are incredible deals and some you hope to break even.

Or maybe not coming back:

Seems like nothing, but people that are excited for this game need to temper their expectations. EA Sports makes average games, if this game ever actually comes out it's going to be average.

Ugh. Hope this doesn't hold it up. I'll go ahead and disagree on EA Sports making average games, I'm sure many are, but IMO NCAA Football has always been a great game, much smoother and more fluid gameplay than Madden, not even close.

Yeah, but that was 10+ years ago, the people that made it are almost certainly gone or in different positions. How many great games has EA Sports made recently?

For me, the gameplay itself doesn't have to be amazing to make it an above average game. The fact that it's the best sport in the world, in a video game, AND it includes my Alma Mater with specifics for each school/stadium/fan base already make it worth it to me (including the specialized music mentioned last year). The dynasty (with recruiting) and player career modes themselves are already above average imo, I doubt they got worse than they were.

Even if the actual gameplay is a Madden rebrand I'll be more than happy because of all the other things.

It could be good, I'm not saying it can't, but their track record of ignoring the single player career modes and focusing on multiplayer, pay to win modes that make them more money is very clear.

I am not sure how much the players think EA is going to pay them. Of the 65 power 5 teams, and each roster with 85 scholarship players, that $2.762 million that EA would pay out. Now, of those, probably 20-30 have the NIL value to ask for more. But for most of these players, that's probably the most they are going to get from their actual NIL value (not the donor pay for play NIL amount).

This. If the actual gameplay is like Madden that is fine with me. What makes NCAA great is the dynasty mode.

My guess is they know how much the NFLPA gets for royalties for the Madden games and it is significantly (50x or more) higher than $500/player.

Now granted there are way more NCAA players than NFL players so that number is most likely not feasible.

The original rosters are the least important part of the game. The ai generated recruits and recruiting are what make the game. Sucks this is what has held the series back.
The game was an annual release based on those original rosters, the team playbooks and how well those players could execute those first few seasons. The only way EA could avoid potential litigation would be to make each school opposite of what they are: Iowa State for example could be a 5 WR Air Raid Offense with a 5-2 defense in order to avoid any NIL. Yes, you like could change that but now instead of changing player names you would likely need to change attribute ratings and do that for each team whereas EA did all that work (except for names) before.

Just for the sake of argument, it's estimated that the Madden franchise earns EA about $600 million per year, and EA had a net revenue of somewhere north of $7 billion last year.

Agree. There was something out not long ago where EA specifically said this one wasn't going to be a Madden reskin. But dynasty mode, creating your own school/program, and being able to play against buddies in different parts of the country is what makes it great.

100% agree. I bought Madden for the first time in maybe a decade this past winter out of boredom, couldn't believe they still haven't improved the gameplay.
